The Eagles (3-8) have played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in Division I basketball this season. The Eagles have played five teams in the NCAA NET Rankings top 90 so far this season, posting a 1-5 record. The Eagles gave Drake (No. 43) its biggest scare of the season, falling at the buzzer 63-61. FGCU played tight against St. Bonaventure (No. 53) for most of the contest before falling. In the Wednesday leading up to the LSU (No. 63) game, the Eagles led Furman (No. 88) for over 30 minutes but dropped a 76-73 decision. FGCU's win against the top 90 came against FAU (No. 86) when
Jevin Muniz hit a shot at the buzzer to give FGCU an 80-78 win.
While the Eagles sit at 3-8 on the season, the NCAA's NET rankings also show that things could turn towards the better for FGCU. The Eagles have the fourth-best NET ranking among teams in the ASUN. Only Lipscomb (No. 95), North Florida (No. 138) and North Alabama (No. 142) are ranked higher than FGCU. The loss to UNCW knocked FGCU down to No. 161 in the rankings from No. 146., but the Eagles have moved Still, that mark is higher than 2023-24 ASUN Champion and current Conference USA member Kennesaw State (No. 163).
Florida Tech will be playing its third game in three days. The Panthers defeated Trinity Baptist 100-63 Friday and will face Dominican University of New York Saturday before traveling from Melbourne for Sunday's game. The game will count towards Florida Tech's record.
After Sunday's contest, the Eagles will be back in action one more time in the calendar year as they travel to take on Richmond Dec. 28 at 6 p.m.
