Eagles prep to host EKU in semifinal matchup

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Atlantic Sun Conference regular season champions Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer preps to host a semifinal round match Thursday against No. 5 Eastern Kentucky at Pickering Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on ESPN+.

For tickets to the ASUN Tournament, purchase online HERE or at the gate at Pickering Field. Tickets start at $15 for adults and $13 for military personnel and youth.

FGCU is eyeing its 10th appearance in the ASUN Championship match with a win on Thursday. FGCU has advanced to the title match in nine of its 18-year history. 2024 ASUN Coach of the Year Jim Blankenship built the women's soccer program in 2007. The Eagles are 8-1 all-time in the ASUN Championship match, seeking their third straight title and ninth overall crown in program history.

In order to do that, No. 5 Eastern Kentucky stands in the way. FGCU's lone loss in conference play this season is against the Colonels, a 2-1 road defeat in Louisville, Kentucky. Paula Herranz and Kylie Fitzgerald found the back of the net for EKU.

FGCU struck first in the 23rd minute courtesy of Erika Zschuppe, but EKU responded with an equalizer in just 15 seconds. Zschuppe, an ASUN First Team selection, has recorded a team-leading 11 goals this season for the Eagles.

The Eagles (11-5-2, 9-1-1 ASUN) have not lost a game since that match at EKU on Sept. 26. FGCU is 8-0-1 since the turning point in Kentucky, now boasting a top-25 scoring offense with 42 goals.

EKU (11-7-3, 7-3-1 ASUN) defeated two fellow Florida schools in Jacksonville and North Florida to advance to the semifinal round. FGCU's opening match of the ASUN Tournament is Thursday after receiving a double-bye as the No. 1 overall seed. The No. 1 seed has only two out of the last five ASUN Tournaments.

Sophomore ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year Olivia Molina is nine saves away from breaking the program single-season record of 117. She set the record as a freshman a season ago. Her 109 saves ranks 11th in the nation, and her 6.41 saves per match ranks sixth overall. Molina has helped to produce a total of seven shutouts on the year.

The winner of the semifinal round will play the winner of Thursday's first semifinal round game, featuring No. 2 Central Arkansans and No. 3 Lipscomb, in the championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Fort Myers. The first semifinal match begins at 3:05 p.m. on ESPN+.
