Eagles to stay fresh Saturday with New College of Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer will stay fresh Saturday by hosting a match against New College of Florida at 1 p.m. at Pickering Field.

FGCU (10-5-2, 9-1-1) earned the No. 1 overall seed in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament as the regular season champion, receiving a nearly two-week double bye until Nov. 7. The championship match is set for Sunday, Nov. 10. For tickets to the ASUN Championship, visit HERE

The tournament's first round began on Halloween with both No. 7 Bellarmine and No. 5 Eastern Kentucky advancing on penalty kicks. FGCU will face the winner of the No. 4 North Florida/No. 5 EKU matchup. The Eagles defeated North Florida 2-0 but suffered a 2-1 road loss against EKU for the Green and Blue's only defeat in conference play this season.

FGCU took home the ASUN Midfielder, Goalkeeper and Coach of the Year Award on Wednesday. Jim Blankenship became a six-time ASUN Coach of the Year selection as Ashley Labbe collected the midfield title and Olivia Molina was tagged with the goalkeeper honor. Molina is nine saves away from breaking the FGCU single-season save mark of 117, a record she set as a freshman just a season ago.

The Eagles earned nearly half of the ASUN First-Team selections with five, had another two appear on the Third Team and one more to land on the All-Freshman Team for a total of eight Eagles honored.
