Fort Myers, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Big Ten Conference opponent University of Iowa to open the 2024 spring season at the FGCU Tennis Complex Saturday.

The ladies competed hard today against a very solid team from Iowa," said FGCU head women's tennis coach Courtney Vernon. "We will build off of today and look forward to competing again next weekend."
The Hawkeyes earned the doubles point to start the day, and Iowa continued their dominance in singles winning match No. 6 when freshman Madeleine Joffe fell 6-2, 6-2. Senior Jordana Ossa was defeated 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.

Ida Ferding dropped the first set at No. 3 before ultimately winning 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5).
Freshman
Paloma Goldsmith ended the day on a high note for the Eagles securing another point with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory at No. 5.
FGCU returns to action Saturday at the University of South Florida. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa.
