Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women’s tennis falls at USF

The Florida Gulf Coast University women's tennis team fought hard Saturday against the University of South Florida but fell to the Bulls 7-0 at the USF Varsity Tennis Center in Tampa, Florida.

"Today, USF played very well in singles." said FGCU head women's tennis coach Courtney Vernon. "The ladies did not compete well today, but some days are like that, and we will learn a lot from this match and look forward to playing again next weekend against FAU."

USF (1-0) started strong, winning two doubles matches to begin the day with a point.

Freshman Madeleine Joffe and graduate Ida Ferding dropped their matches at No. 6 and No. 2, respectively. Senior Jordana Ossa fell at No. 3, and freshman Paloma Goldsmith was defeated at No. 5.

Senior Fanny Norin dropped her decision at No. 1 before Junior Isabella Colmenares rallied through three sets, winning the second set, 6-1, before dropping the tiebreaker set 10-4 at No. 4.

The Eagles (0-2) return to action Sunday, Jan. 28 as they head to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic University (0-1). First serve is set for noon.
