FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis dropped the spring season opener against Troy, 5-2, on Saturday.
Doubles court number one was won by
Hugo Magnusson and
Eric Oncins (7-5) but the point ultimately went to Troy.
Troy would clinch at 4-0 but the poise of the Eagles shined through as the remaining three courts had strong showings.
Pablo Paternostro was the first to get the Green and Blue a point with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory on court three, bringing the score to 4-1. It was shortly after Paternostro's win that
Philipp Bosse secured another point for FGCU, winning court two 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
All eyes turned to court five where
Mika Bunjes forced a 10-point tie breaker. He fought valiantly but narrowly lost the breaker culminating in the 5-2 loss.
