FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer team (0-1-2) and Georgia Southern (1-1-1) battled for 90 minutes, but neither team was able to break the deadlock resulting in a 0-0 draw Friday at Pickering Field.
The match was the home opener for the Eagles – it was delayed for a total of four times due to lightning in the area and technical difficulties with one of the light poles on the field.
"I liked our patience tonight and feel we did a much better job in managing the tempo of the game," head coach
Jesse Cormier. said "The issue is our final action in the final third. We need to continue to build the chemistry and have more definitive movement and quality to finish off the moves we create. Our final pass needs the proper texture and we need more leadership in the final third to create and score. I have faith we will, it's just a matter of time."
Overall, the Green & Blue posted four shots in the game while Georgia Southern tallied three but just had one on goal. Georgia Southern made two saves with FGCU's Wyatt Kristner only being put to the test once during the entire night.to earn his first clean sheet of the season.

The Green & Blue opened the first 25 minutes of play with two shots and both attempts came from
Shoki Yoshida.
Gustavo Ferrari aimed to put FGCU on the scoreboard in the 36
th minute, but his shot went too far left and did not connect. Georgia Southern responded at 39:02, but Kistner was there to corral it and both teams entered the halftime scoreless.
The first 14 minutes of the second half saw no shots until Georgia Southern's Jonathan Mindegaard fired a shot that landed far right from the goal. The Eagles final shots of the match occurred at the 65:28 mark, but
Pau Santanach was not able to connect with the back of the net.
FGCU will return to action for its second home game Monday, Sep. 4 as the Eagles host Marist (1-1-1) at 7 p.m. at Pickering Field.
