FORT MYERS, Fla. – The No. 24 FGCU women's basketball team (29-3) begins its annual postseason odyssey Sunday in the ASUN Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals, as the top-seeded Eagles take on Stetson at 5 p.m. at Alico Arena. The game is available for viewing on ESPN+.

The Green & Blue captured its 13th ASUN regular-season championship in grand style Wednesday at Lipscomb, downing the Bisons 101-59. That victory secured FGCU the outright crown, and the No. 1 seed was already locked down before Wednesday's final slate of ASUN games – meaning FGCU will host its games throughout the tournament.

The Eagles added the 2022-23 ASUN crown – its sixth straight – with regular-season titles from the 2008-09, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 seasons.

Tickets for the ASUN Tournament are on sale now at www.FGCUTickets.com, and at the Alico Arena ticket office.

The Eagles have won 11 straight games and 21 of their last 22. FGCU joins Connecticut as the only active programs in the nation to win at least 25 games in 13 straight seasons. FGCU has also recorded 19 straight 20-win seasons dating back to 2004-05.

Wednesday's victory was the third time this year that the Green & Blue surpassed the 100-point barrier. The Eagles are 27-0 all-time when scoring 100+ points, and have now defeated Lipscomb 34 straight times. The Bisons are the No. 3 seed in the ASUN Tournament, and play North Alabama at 6 p.m. Sunday in the quarterfinals at second-seeded Liberty.

Stetson earned the right to play the Eagles by defeating Jacksonville 60-53 in Saturday's ASUN Tournament first-round game. Freshman forward Jaelyn Talley led the Hatters on Saturday with 15 points and seven rebounds, and redshirt sophomore guard Khamya McNeal added 12 points.

McNeal leads the Hatters at 10.8 points per game, and Talley and senior guard Jamiya Turner each add 10.7 points per outing.

FGCU is 33-5 against the Hatters all-time, including three straight wins and a regular-season sweep this season. The Green & Blue won 100-58 on Feb. 8 at Alico Arena – the largest margin of victory in the series history – and captured a 67-57 win on Feb. 11 in DeLand.

The 100-58 victory was highlighted by the performance of graduate guard Tishara Morehouse (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King HS/Nebraska CC), who scored 17 points and dealt 10 assists for her second straight double-double. Morehouse's 10-assist performance was only the 15th time an Eagle dealt 10 or more assists in FGCU history, and her double-double with assists was only the sixth in the Green & Blue's 21-year era.

Morehouse led the Eagles with 15 points and three assists in the road rematch, and graduate guard Sha Carter (Southfield. Mich./Wylie E. Groves HS/Walsh) recorded her third double-double of the season – scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds to go with two assists and a pair of steals.

Morehouse and Carter were both named to the All-ASUN Conference First-Team list earlier this week, with Morehouse earning the Player of the Year honors. Carter was named ASUN Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and junior guard Alyza Winston (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon HS/Mississippi State) earned All-ASUN Conference Third-Team honors. FGCU coach Karl Smesko was also named ASUN Coach of the Year for the 13th time in his future Hall of Fame career.

FGCU thumped Lipscomb 101-59 in the regular-season finale in Nashville, Tenn. On March 1. Winston led the Eagles with 21 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Senior forward Uju Ezeudu (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg HS/Denver) delivered 16 points, three rebounds and two blocks.

Morehouse eclipsed the 1,500-point career milestone against the Bisons, doing so in the final two minutes of the third quarter as via two free throws. Morehouse scored the exact 18 points she needed to reach the milestone, while chipping in a game-high eight assists, and two steals.

Morehouse leads the Eagles at 16.3 points per game, which ranked second in the ASUN. Carter goes for 13.7 points per game along with a team-high 5.9 rebounds per outing, and Winston pops for 13.1 points per game.

The Green & Blue have now hit 383-3-pointers, for an average of 12.0 treys per game – the highest total and per-game average in the country. The Eagles are 1.9 treys per game ahead of Wright State and Tulsa. FGCU has tripled their opponents' treys total, allowing only 128 this season. The Eagles have led the nation in made threes per game the past three years and in four of the last five seasons -- with an NCAA single-season record total 431 in 2017-18.

FGCU is third in the country with a scoring margin of 22.5 points per game – with only South Carolina (30.9) and LSU (27.3) sporting higher scoring margins. The Eagles are currently fourth in the nation in assist/turnover ratio with 1.48.

Entering this season, the Eagles were selected by both the coaches and the media to repeat as ASUN champions. FGCU is currently ranked No. 3 in the Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Eagles finished with a program-best-ever No. 20 ranking in 2021-22 and have four Top 25 finishes in the past five seasons. Further, only the Green & Blue and defending national champion South Carolina have won at least 30 games in five of the last eight campaigns.

COACH SMESKO
FGCU head coach Karl Smesko maintains a record of 639-131 (.829) overall in his career, the third-highest winning percentage among active Division I coaches behind only UConn's Geno Auriemma and LSU's Kim Mulkey. He has also led the Eagles to a 249-19 (.929) mark in ASUN regular-season play and a 30-2 (.938) record in ASUN tournament play. Over the previous 11-plus seasons, he has guided FGCU to a 185-7 (.963) record in conference play with six undefeated seasons. The 12-time ASUN Coach of the Year has led the program to 12-straight 25-win seasons and 18 consecutive 20-win campaigns, including 30-plus wins in five of the last eight years. On top of all that, the Eagles are 578-104 (.847) all-time since Smesko started the program in the 2002-03 season, and the Green & Blue's .846 all-time winning percentage is the best in NCAA Division I women's basketball history.
