FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball heads to Cameron Indoor Stadium Sunday to take on Duke at noon on ACC Network.
FGCU is 1-2 all-time against the Blue Devils, winning just the second-ever meeting 78-56 in Fort Myers back in 2019. Last season, Duke returned the favor with a 71-48 victory over the Eagles.
The Eagles are 9-11 all-time against current Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, with wins over Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. FGCU is seeking its 26th Power Five win in program history.
Duke (5-4) stumbled in its ACC opener on Thursday against Clemson, falling 80-64. FGCU (7-3) took care of business at home with a 49-point win over Gardner-Webb, 102-53, where five Eagles reached double figures.
The Eagles have received votes in the AP Poll for two straight weeks after knocking off No. 18 North Carolina in the Gulf Coast Showcase. FGCU received four votes in the latest poll, good enough for a four-way tie for 35th overall.
FGCU is the only mid-major program with four straight Top 25 finishes in the AP Poll over the last four seasons. The Green & Blue has finished in the Top 25 in five out of the previous six years.
FGCU, South Carolina, Stanford and UConn are the only four D-I programs to record 30 or more wins in three of the last five seasons. The Eagles went 33-4 a season ago, winning their 13th ASUN Conference regular season title and ninth ASUN Tournament Championship along with capturing their fourth-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
The Eagles have led the nation in made 3-pointers per game for four consecutive seasons and are currently ranked No. 19 in the category with 9.2 per game. FGCU entered the 2023-24 season as the all-time winningest program in women's college basketball history at .845 percent.
