Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball hits the road to take on an undefeated Old Dominion squad Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
At a perfect 6-0, Old Dominion possesses the No. 1 scoring defense in the country, allowing only 45.7 points per game. The Monarchs also hold a top-10 three-point percentage defense.
Prior to Thursday's 72-66 win over William & Mary, Old Dominion had surrendered a season-high of just 50 points in its season opener. The Monarchs' season low in points allowed is 29 in a win over Elon.
FGCU (6-2) will counter with back-to-back Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week selection Dolly Cairns and three-point record-breaking sharpshooter Brylee Bartram.
Bartram broke the single-game school record for made 3-pointers in Wednesday's 108-31 victory over Ave Maria. The redshirt senior caught fire from downtown, knocking down 10 of her 16 attempts from behind-the-arc. The Eagles have led the nation in made 3-pointers per game for four straight seasons. The Green & Blue currently ranks eighth in the category.
FGCU is 1-0 all-time against Old Dominion, winning its first-ever meeting last season 81-62 in Fort Myers. The Eagles received 10 votes in the latest AP Poll and are positioned No. 3 overall in the CollegeInsider.com's Mid Major Top 25 Poll.
FGCU is the only mid-major program with four straight Top 25 finishes in the AP Poll over the last four seasons. The Green & Blue has finished in the Top 25 in five out of the last six years.
FGCU, South Carolina, Stanford and UConn are the only four DI programs to record 30 or more wins in three of the last five seasons.
The Eagles went 33-4 a season ago – winning its 13th ASUN Conference regular season title and 10th ASUN Tournament Championship, along with capturing its fourth NCAA Tournament First Round win in program history.
