Women's basketball signs Kaelyn Flowers

Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball and head coach Karl Smesko signed Kaelyn Flowers to the 2023 signing class Thursday during the National Signing Day period.

"We are very excited to have Kaelyn join our program," Smesko said. "Kaelyn is a very skilled player who is very intelligent on the floor. She is also very competitive, and she has a knack for coming up big during pressure-filled moments. We are eager to see what the future holds for Kaelyn."

Flowers is a 5-foot-6 point guard from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In her junior season at Blackman High School, she averaged 11.8 points, 2.7 assists, three rebounds and two steals per game - dropping 319 points throughout the campaign.

For her career, she has tallied 754 points and has averaged 9.5 points, guiding her squad to a state championship in 2021. In 2022 alone, Flowers was named the District MVP, All-Region, All-State and the District 7A Player of the Year.

In the classroom, Flowers has made the Principal's List and is a member of the National Honors Society with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

"I chose FGCU because I felt like it was the perfect place for me to grow in all aspects of my life," Flowers said.
