Eagles open Gulf Coast Showcase against Delaware

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball opens the Gulf Coast Showcase Friday against Delaware just down the road at Hertz Arena.

Tip off is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will be streamed on FloHoops. The Showcase will feature a stacked eight-team bracket that includes three Top 25 teams. For the full bracket, click here.

All eight teams are guaranteed three games, spanning from the Showcase Championship to a seventh-place game.

FGCU, No. 16 Kansas State University, Purdue Fort Wayne University, University of Delaware, No. 5 University of Iowa, No. 18 University of North Carolina, University of Vermont and Western Kentucky will duel in the Sunshine State during Thanksgiving week.

Iowa, North Carolina and Vermont were each NCAA Tournament teams a season ago along with FGCU. North Carolina advanced to the Second Round, while a Caitlin Clark-led Iowa squad made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament championship as a No. 2 seed by upsetting South Carolina in the Final Four.

If FGCU defeats Delaware on Friday, the Eagles will play the winner of the Purdue Fort Wayne/Iowa matchup on Saturday.

Friday's meeting between the Eagles and the Blue Hens will mark the first in program history. FGCU enters Feast Week 3-1 fresh off a Power Five win over Kentucky at Alico Arena.

Dolly Cairns was named the ASUN Newcomer of the Week for her team-leading performances against Kentucky and Florida International University. Uju Ezeudu leads all Eagles in points per game, averaging 14.0, and has two double-double efforts on the season.

The Eagles climbed to No. 3 in the latest CollegeInsider.com mid-major Top 25 poll. FGCU is the only mid-major with four straight Top 25 finishes in the AP Poll over the last four seasons. The Green & Blue has finished in the Top 25 in five out of the last six years.

FGCU, South Carolina, Stanford and UConn are the only four DI programs to record 30-or-more wins in three of the last five seasons.
