FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball welcomes Florida International University for its 2023-24 home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Alico Arena.
FGCU Athletics will be commemorating the 2022-23 ASUN regular season and tournament champions Tuesday with a white out banner reveal. The Eagles enter the home opener 1-1 coming off a season-opening win at Brown, 80-58, and a West Coast defeat at No. 21 USC, 67-51. Maddie Antenucci produced a career-high 19 points against the nationally ranked Trojans.
FIU is 2-0 on the young season after its buzzer beating one-point win, 65-64, at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley last Friday.
The in-state battle will air on ESPN+. The Eagles are a perfect 14-0 against the Panthers. Last season, FGCU delivered a 29-point win in Miami, as Brylee Bartram scored nine points and Uju Ezeudu added eight.
The Green & Blue has recorded six undefeated seasons inside Alico Arena and currently holds a 323-26 (.925) all-time record on its home floor. In the last six years, FGCU has lost only a single or a pair of games per season at Alico. The Eagles are riding a 14-game home winning streak dating back to last season and have won its last seven home openers.
FGCU ranks No. 14 nationally in made 3-pointers per game. The Eagles have led the nation in that category for four consecutive seasons. FIU is No. 2 in rebounds per game, No. 8 in field goal percentage defense and has the No. 29 overall scoring offense in the country.
