Eagles deliver 2-0 shutout victory over Austin Peay

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer used two second-half goals Thursday to defeat Austin Peay 2-0 at Pickering Field in ASUN action.

"Proud of the ladies, great result and thought we played well," head coach Jim Blankenship said. "Two outstanding goals and some relentless attacking work."

The Eagles (8-4-2, 5-1-1 ASUN) were indeed relentless. FGCU launched 12 shots in the first half with most soaring high over the crossbar.

FGCU stayed composed heading into the break deadlocked in a scoreless tie. The Green and Blue also controlled possession of the ball Thursday, winning the possession battle 53-47 percent.

The Eagles produced another balanced gauntlet of 12 powerful shots in the second half against the Governors (5-9-1, 3-4 ASUN) before finally finding paydirt in the 66th minute, courtesy of Ashley Labbe.

Nine of FGCU's 24 shots were on goal. Labbe and Zschuppe accounted for 13 of the Eagles' shots. Labbe fired a team-leading seven, while Erika Zschuppe notched six.

FGCU found the back of the net again with the dagger in the 77th minute as Zschuppe provided the 2-0 cushion, her sixth goal of the season. Reese Mendenhall and Katharina Oelschlaeger were credited with the assists to set up the scoring opportunity.

Olivia Molina snagged six saves while facing 11 shots between the pipes to post her seventh shutout of the season. Molina is now just 13 saves away from breaking FGCU's single-season save mark of 85.

FGCU returns to the pitch Sunday for a pivotal Senior Day battle against Lipscomb. The Bisons remain undefeated in conference play at 7-0. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
