FORT MYERS, Fla. - Isaiah Thompson was named men's basketball Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Conference as Florida Gulf Coast University earned high marks in the two preseason polls released by the league Monday afternoon.

In the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll, the Eagles were slotted in the second spot behind Eastern Kentucky, which had eight of the 12 first-place votes. On the media side, FGCU was picked to finish fourth with a pair of first-place votes in the ledger.

"I'm surprised that we're as high as two because we only have one all-league candidate in Isaiah Thompson," said FGCU head coach Pat Chambers. "usually when you are ranked that high, you have two, three, or four candidates so I thank the coaches and the media for ranking us that high. Preseason rankings are for the fans, and the families. That's for them. We need to focus on ourselves. For us, it's all about improving and being the best team we can be going into March and going into the conference tournament."

Thompson, a fifth-year performer for FGCU, started all 32 games last season and led the Eagles with 14.9 points per game and 109 total assists. He would be named Third Team All-ASUN at the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign for the Eagles.

The Eagles return 11 players from last season. That squad helped to set a new program record with 13 consecutive wins at Alico Arena dating back to the prior year. FGCU also won games against St. Bonaventure University, Georgia Southern University, and the University of Southern California.

This year's schedule kicks off with a trip to Bloomington, Indiana and a contest against Indiana University Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. The home opener for will take place three days later against Ave Maria at 7 p.m. in Alico Arena. Tickets are available by clicking here.
