FORT MYERS, Fla. - Three FGCU men's soccer players have earned All-ASUN honors as announced by the conference on Friday. Midfielder
Davi Alves (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the Green and Blue by being named to the All-Conference First Team.
"Davi is an excellent player with a growth mindset and has gotten consistently better in his time here," said head coach
Jesse Cormier. "His skill under pressure is rare at this level, but he also has strong character, poise and a unique ability to be calm under pressure. We look forward to seeing what he can achieve next."
Joining Alves with honors are freshmen
Alon Drey (Or'Aqiva, Isarel) and
Nadav Ohayon (Herzliya, Israel) who each earned a spot on the All-ASUN Freshman Team.
Alves has played in 13 games, starting all of them, being FGCU's lead scorer with six goals and 14 points. He has recorded 956 minutes of playing time and his goals rank him 5
th in the ASUN. Alves has been named ASUN Player of the Week two times thus far. The first award came on 9/27 when the senior scored the first goal against the Flames in the 53rd minute to tie the game before sending the winning assist.
The next honor came on 10/25 as Alves scored the first goal against Queens in the 45
th minute before sending fans into a frenzy with another goal just twenty seconds later to give the Green and Blue a 2-0 lead. He then picked up an assist in the 50
th minute to seal the 3-0 victory. He also delivered the winning goal against Power 5 team Northwestern.
Drey is an unanimous selection and has had a great freshman year so far registering one goal and an assist. He played and started in 11 games and has only had two matches of those 11 that he didn't stay all 90 minutes on the field. He has played for a total of 1,043 minutes which is the second most on the Eagles. He scored the final goal of FGCU's 3-0 victory over Queens.
"Alon is a warrior, and strives to be the best version of himself. His ambitions are clear and his daily actions support his dreams." said head coach
Jesse Cormier. "His impact on this program has been truly profound for a first-year player. We're excited to have him as a new member of our brotherhood here at FGCU men's soccer."
Joining Drey on the freshman team is Ohayon, who played 13 games with 12 starts registering 981 minutes. He played six matches where he didn't leave the field for all 90 minutes contributing to the Eagles strong defense. Those include major wins against Liberty, Northwestern and No. 10 Lipscomb.
"Nadav is very well respected because of his character, personality and ability to connect to everyone." said head coach
Jesse Cormier. "He has played well in his first season and I believe he is one of the top defenders in the conference. He will continue to improve and dominate many matchups in his time here with us."
