ATLANTA – O'Vonte Mullings, Gustavo Vasconcelos,
and
Ethan Dudley took home major awards as five Eagles were named to the ASUN's All-Conference list Friday afternoon.
Shandel Senior joined the aforementioned trio to the First Team while
Jahvanie Hammond landed on the All-Freshman Team.
"Behind every individual award is a team of really good people," said head coach
Jesse Cormier. "We have some very talented people who have coaches and teammates who support, love, and believe in them. Because of this, these exceptional individuals are challenged each day to work towards becoming the best versions of themselves. This is a credit to our culture and gives us all a sense of pride."
Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/Northview Heights)
Despite missing two games out of FGCU's 11, the junior striker becomes the third Player of the Year in program history and first since 2016 (Albert Ruiz). In nine starts, Mullings led the Eagles and was tied for first in the ASUN with five goals (one game-winner). He also paced FGCU in shots (19), shots on goal (13), and points (10) while logging nearly 800 minutes on the pitch. Since being named the Freshman of the Year in 2018, Mullings has now made the First Team three-straight seasons.
Vasconcelos (Recife, Brazil/Colegio GGE)
Now a two-time ASUN Goalie of the Year (2018), Vasconcelos started all 11 contests, posting over 1,000 minutes between the pipes. The Brazil native secured 40 saves to go along with a 1.26 goals-against average (1.09 ASUN) while posting two clean sheets. Vasconcelos is the first keeper in FGCU history to win the award twice.
Dudley (St. Johns, Fla./Bartram Trail HS)
After being named to the conference's All-Academic Team Thursday afternoon, Dudley earns his first superlative being named the Defensive Player of the Year. Dudley started in all 10 games he appeared in, missing just one due to a red card. In those contests, he totaled over 900 minutes of action producing two goals and 18 shots (second-most on the team). His five shots on goal ranked third this season. He becomes the fourth player in Eagle history to take home the award and the first since 2018 (Preston Kilwien).
Senior (Kingston, Jamaica/Vere Technical HS/Daytona State)
The Daytona State transfer made an immediate impact to an FGCU lineup that featured nine new starters. Senior started all 10 games he appeared in, missing just one due to a red card, logging nearly 930 minutes as a vital part of the Eagles midfield attack.
Hammond (Lauderhill, Fla./Coral Glades HS)
In 10 games this season, Hammond started five and was tied for first on the team dishing out two assists. The freshman would've had his first goal of the season in the ASUN Final before the game was declared a no-contest. FGCU has now gone on to place at least one Eagle on the All-Freshman list 13 out of the last 14 seasons.
