Jacksonville Blanks Men’s Soccer on the Road

FGCU closes out the regular season at home next Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m. versus Stetson.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU men's soccer team (2-2-3, 2-1-2 ASUN) suffered a 3-0 loss Saturday night to Jacksonville (3-4-1, 3-2-0 ASUN) at Southern Oak Stadium.

"We have to all take full responsibility for this reality," said head coach Jesse Cormier. "We didn't prepare well enough this week, didn't do enough in the game and we didn't compete to the level that JU did. They wanted it more in all facets, so we have to learn from this and re-calibrate what it takes to be atop of this league. It all starts with doing a better job at the beginning of the week and all the way through the Stetson game next week."

Within the first six minutes of the contest, O'Vonte Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/Northview Secondary Heights) struck two shots on target but was denied each time. The Dolphins then got on the board as they converted a penalty kick in the 13th minute for the 1-0 lead. Less than 10 minutes later, JU struck again to jump ahead 2-0. Coming off the bench, Michael Luke (Parkland, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas/UNC Asheville) launched a pair of shots on frame in the 25th and 30th minute but none found its way to the back of the net. At the end of the half, FGCU had five shots (four on frame).

Out of the break, Jacksonville ballooned the lead to 3-0 with a goal in the 52nd minute. From there, the Eagles produced three shots with the final two coming on frame in the 83rd minute by Mullings and two minutes later by Aiden Jokomba (Anchovy St. James, Jamaica/Cornwall College).

FGCU finished the match with eight total shots (six on frame) – Mullings led the Eagles with three shots, all on goal. In net, keeper Gustavo Vasconcelos (Recife, Brazil/Colegio GGE) secured one save in the losing effort.
