FORT MYERS, FL – The FGCU women's tennis team (4-5) welcomes UT Arlington Thursday morning and will open up ASUN play against Lipscomb Saturday morning.

FGCU is coming off a defeat against the No. 2-ranked Florida State Seminoles last Friday. In the match,
Sofia Perez (Alajuela, Costa Rica/Florida Virtual School) garnered FGCU's point as she took down the No. 83rd-ranked singles player in the country on court No. 3 (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6)). Overall, the senior is tied with freshman
Alba Retortillo (Leon,Spain/La Anunciata) for the most dual wins (five) this spring. In doubles action, Perez and
Maja Ornberg (Kil, Sweden/De la Gardiegymnasiet, Lidkoping) have teamed up to collect four victories with two coming on the top court. Wednesday afternoon, Perez was named the ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her Eagle career.
UT Arlington
The Mavs enter the weekend with a 7-2 record and are riding a three-match win streak, most recently blanking UConn, 7-0. Momoka Horiguchi and Polina Akimova have each produced five dual match wins. Meanwhile, Carla Pons and Almudena Boza are 2-0 in doubles play.
This will be the first meeting between both programs.
Lipscomb Bisons
The Bisons come in with a 3-7 record but have won their last two matches, outscoring their opponents 10-1 in the process. In dual play, three Bisons have recorded five wins led by Kate Popova with five of them coming on court No. 1. In doubles competition, Emma Zakordoniec and Anja Trbeznik are 3-2, going 2-2 on court No. 2.
FGCU leads the all-time series, 11-1.

HEAD COACH COURTNEY VERNON
FGCU's women's tennis team is led by three-time ASUN Coach of the Year Courtney Vernon (entering 7th season)
who led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN regular-season crowns in her fifth season in 2018. She has mentored her student-athletes into earning 59 ASUN All-Conference and All-Academic honors, including 2014, 2016 and 2017 ASUN Freshman of the Year as well as the 2016, 2017 and 2019 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the 2018 Player of the Year. Vernon has led the Green and Blue to a 76-55 overall record (.581) and 31-8 conference record (.795).
