FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off back-to-back conference sweeps at Swanson Stadium, the FGCU baseball team (30-15, 12-3 ASUN) will hit the road to take on reigning ASUN champ Stetson (18-26, 7-8 ASUN) for a three-game series May 3-5. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. The teams will wrap up the weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday. All three games will be streamed on ESPN +.

A LOOK AT FGCU
•     The Eagles have already swept three teams in conference play (Lipscomb, Jacksonville and North Alabama). The last time FGCU had three league sweeps under its belt was 2017 when the team went on to win the ASUN Championship.
•     The Eagles are the only team with three conference sweeps this season. Lipscomb has two, having won all three against Stetson and Kennesaw State.
•     After entering last weekend tied for first in the conference standings, the team now stands alone at the top of the league. Liberty (30-14, 10-5 ASUN) comes in at second.
•     Junior Alex Brait has cranked out a team-high 64 hits and leads the Eagles with 41 runs and a .330 batting average. Brait (Viera, FL/Viera HS) has caught 11 runners stealing base, the 10th-most in FGCU single-season history.
•     Senior Jay Hayes has turned in 41 RBIs so far this season, the second-most of any ASUN player (Cade Sorrells, Lipscomb, 46). Hayes (Altamonte Springs, FL/Lyman HS) has the most home runs on the team (8) and the most doubles (15). His slugging percentage of .561 sits at the top of the conference.
•     Junior Mason Studstill leads the league with 84 strikeouts, which ties for the eighth-most in the all-time FGCU single-season standings. His current earned run average (1.44) is ninth in the nation and would be the lowest in a season in Eagle history.
•     Studstill (Titusville, FL/Rockledge HS/Eastern Florida State) averages 11.01 strikeouts per nine innings. Current Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale owns the single-season record (12.76, 2010), but Studstill checks in at sixth on that list.
•     Junior closer Hunter McGarry is holding opponents to .183 in the batter's box and has been credited with eight saves this season. With just four more, McGarry (Bradenton, FL/Bradenton Christian School/State College of Florida) will tie the Eagles' single-season record.
•     Both Studstill and McGarry have been nominated for prestigious postseason awards. Studstill was named to the College Baseball Foundation's 2019 Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, while McGarry was tabbed on the NCBWA's 2019 Stopper of the Year Award Watch List.

Last Time Out
•     FGCU fell to FAU by a score of 11-5 in the last midweek game of the season on Tuesday night in Boca Raton. The Owls are currently ranked at #50 in the RPI standings.
•     Senior Keith Stevens (Miami, FL/Miami Killian HS/Hillsborough CC) led the Eagles' offense with three hits and one RBI. Junior Kohl Gilmore (Fort Pierce, FL/John Carroll HS/Indian River) added a two-run homer and senior Eric Gonzalez (Miami, FL/American HS/ASA College) cranked out a pair of hits, but it was not enough to catch up to the Owls.
•     Six different arms made appearances for the Green and Blue. Freshman Cody Woodring  (Lakeland, FL/McKeel Academy of Technology) turned in the longest outing of his career, 3.1 innings, and held the Owls scoreless while allowing just one hit.
•     Junior Keegan Collett (Dallas, TX/Trinity Christian School/Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa) was the only other pitcher who finished his outing without being tagged with any runs.
•     All but one of the game's 11 scoring plays were generated with two outs on the board.

SERIES HISTORY VS. STETSON
•     Friday will be the 37th meeting in the history between the two teams, which currently has a 20-16 record in favor of the Eagles.
•     The Hatters have won seven of the last eight games in the series between the programs.
•     FGCU holds an 11-7 advantage at Stetson's Conrad Park and the teams are split 8-8 at Swanson Stadium.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
•     Stetson entered the spring as the preseason favorite after claiming the 2018 ASUN Championship title. The crown was the eighth in Stetson program history.
•     Stetson's Melching Field and Conrad Park was also selected as one of 16 host sites for Regional Tournaments to open the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
•     The Hatters won all three games to open their postseason run and advanced to a Super Regional in Chapel Hill, where Stetson fell to the Tarheels (7-4, 7-5), ending the team's historic run.
•     Currently, Stetson is on a seven-game losing streak. The Hatters were swept by Lipscomb, dropped two midweeks at No. 7 Florida State and lost the last game in their series against Kennesaw State.
•     Sophomore Eric Foggo owns a team-high .294 batting average and is credited with 11 extra-base hits.
•     Junior Jorge Arenas leads the Hatters with 34 RBIs and 68 total bases. He and Foggo have each tallied four home runs.
•     Left-handed sophomore Chris Gonzalez leads the Stetson starters with a 3.06 ERA and a 6-1 record.
•     Freshman southpaw Daniel Paret has struck out a team-high 71 batters through 61.2 innings of work.
•     As a staff, Stetson has allowed 224 earned runs. The Eagles, by comparison, have let up 191.

THE STRENGTH OF THE CONFERENCE
•     The ASUN currently has four teams in the top-115 RPI ranking: Liberty (68), Jacksonville (94), UNF (110) and FGCU (111).
•     As a whole, ASUN teams are 5-7 against opponents ranked in the nation's top 25.
•     FGCU owns a win over then-No. 5 Florida, who is currently No. 31 in RPI.

2019 SCHEDULE
•     The Eagles began their 55-game campaign with a bang and opened the year playing each of their first 11 games in the friendly confines of Swanson Stadium.
•     The Green and Blue played a total of nine times against programs from Power 5 universities (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC).
•     FGCU is billed to play 36 home games and 19 contests on the road. Additional notable non-conference home games included dates with Rutgers (March 15-17), FAU (March 19), FIU (March 26) and Miami (April 10).
•     The first ASUN matchup was a series at UNF March 22-24, which the Eagles dropped 2-1.
•     FGCU will compete 16 times against programs who have played in the NCAA Championship tournament at least once over the last two years. The mark includes a Florida squad that won the national championship two years ago and advanced to the 2018 College World Series. FGCU will also grace a Stetson program (May 3-5) that hosted an NCAA Regional last year and advanced to a Super Regional.
•     The 2019 ASUN Conference Championship will be held May 22-25 in DeLand, Florida, and will be hosted by Stetson.

He is the only head coach in the program's history and led the program to its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2017. He is a four-time ASUN Coach of the Year and has guided the Green and Blue to four ASUN Regular Season Championships and one ASUN Tournament Championship. His team has been ranked nationally on several occasions, including as high as No. 9 in the country in 2017, and has coached 54 all-conference selections, 31 draft picks, three current major leaguers, 15 current minor leaguers, four ASUN Pitchers of the Year, four All-Americans, three ASUN Players of the Year, one National Freshman Player of the Year, one National Player of the Year and one seven-time MLB All-Star.

5X CHAMPS
The 2017 season was a magical one for the Green and Blue that ended in the program's first Division I NCAA Championship tournament berth. The Eagles ended the year 43-20, which included a midweek sweep over No. 2 Florida, single wins over No. 1 Florida State, Miami, and a three-game sweep at UNC Wilmington. The wins over Miami, FSU, and UF marked the first time FGCU defeated all three programs in the same season.

Reaching as high as No. 9 in the polls, the highest of any program at FGCU, the Eagles struggled in April but bounced back to finish third in the ASUN. During the ASUN Championship, FGCU won four games in a span of 29 hours for their first tournament crown.

The Green and Blue earned the No. 2 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional, defeating Michigan 10-6 before losses to Davidson and North Carolina ended their season. The tournament title added to FGCU's four regular season crowns.
