FORT MYERS, Fla. – Pivotal ASUN Tournament seeding implications will be on the line Thursday-Friday as the FGCU softball team closes out the regular season hosting Lipscomb at the FGCU Softball Complex.

Last Time Out
FGCU took two of three games from Stetson this past weekend. The Eagles snagged both games last Saturday with scores of 2-1 and 3-0 before falling to the Hatters Sunday on Senior Day in 10 innings, 3-2.

FGCU and Lipscomb are currently tied for first in the ASUN as FGCU is vying for its fourth regular season crown and first since 2016. With a sweep, FGCU captures the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in next week's tournament. Two victories gets them the No. 2 seed while one win hands them the No. 3 seed (top two seeds receive a first round bye).  

The Green and Blue
At the plate senior Kate Kelly (Cape Coral, FL./Seminole State College) leads the team in hits (51), batting average (.375) and stolen bases (18). Senior Racquel Fournet (Windermere, FL./Windermere Preparatory School) is hitting .324 while leading the team in RBI (28). Freshman Reedy Davenport (St. Johns, FL./Bartram Trail HS) is FGCU's third .300 plus hitter owning a .308 BA and second on the team in RBI (23).

In the circle, senior Riley Randolph (St. Petersburg, FL./Northeast HS) has collected 17 wins in 25 starts, holding opposing batters to a .189 BA. She is currently 10th nationally in ERA (1.12), and 20th in strikeouts (202). Sophomore Marissa Mesiemore (Bushnell, FL./South Sumter HS) is 10-5 with a 1.70 ERA in 21 appearances.

The pitching staff as a whole has combined to post a 1.75 ERA which sits 11th in the country.

RPI Watch
Heading into the weekend the ASUN boasts three teams  in the top-70 of the RPI standings. Lipscomb comes in at 48, Liberty at 57 while FGCU rounds out the list at 66. The Eagles own a win over No. 8 Minnesota (ranked No. 15 at the time) who boast a No. 10 RPI.

ASUN Championship
FGCU will play host to the 2019 ASUN Softball Championship Wednesday-Saturday, May 8-11. This will mark the third time FGCU will serve as hosts for the tournament, the first time coming back in 2015. The winner of the event will earn the ASUN's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship tournament. Game times will be announced at a later date but tickets can be purchased here.

Scouting the Bisons
Junior Hannah DeVault and senior Jordan Fortel lead the team in hitting each posting a .342 BA. Nine players for the Bisons have posted double-digits in the RBI column, led by Devault at 48.

In the circle, six pitchers have seen action for Lipscomb as senior Mandy Jordan owns a team-low 2.26 ERA going 14-7 overall in the circle. The staff as a whole has combined to post a 2.99 ERA.

FGCU trails the all-time series 14-16 but have won the last five of six meetings.

COACH DEIROS
The founding father of FGCU softball, David Deiros is in his 17th season as head coach. Hired in 2001 to build the program from the dirt up, Deiros has since guided the Eagles to a Eagles to a 635-331-3 (.657), going 149-88 (.623) in the ASUN, having 13 seasons with a winning record, and nine campaigns with 35 wins. Deiros is a former head coach at the 1998 Florida State Runner-up Lely High School in Naples and is the founding head coach of the 1999 District Champion/2001 Regional Runner-up Gulf Coast High School in Naples.

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 77 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 11+ seasons at the Division-I level. Additionally, in just seven+ seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 36 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Seven FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport – including both men's and women's soccer again in 2018. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best 6th-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.35 GPA in the classroom in the Spring, 2018 and had an ASUN Conference and State of Florida best five teams earn the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport.  The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours – being recognized as one of two runner-ups for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
