@FGCU_Softball Welcomes FAU For Midweek Tilt

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team will host FAU for a midweek doubleheader Wednesday evening, before picking up conference play against North Alabama this weekend on the road.

Last Time Out
FGCU is coming off a 2-0 defeat to Liberty as the Eagles fell in three contests to the Flames. In the series finale, senior Kate Kelly (Cape Coral, FL./Seminole State College) went 2-for-4 while senior Riley Randolph (St. Petersburg, FL./Northeast HS) tossed 6.1 innings of work, striking out eight batters.

The Green and Blue
On offense, Kelly leads the team in hitting (.367) and is a threat on the bases going 15-for-18 in stolen base attempts. Freshman Reedy Davenport (St. Johns, FL./Bartram Trail HS) leads the team in RBI (21) while holding a .283 BA. Senior Racquel Fournet (Windermere, FL./Windermere Preparatory School) is the Eagles' second .300 plus hitter, owning a .305 BA.

In the circle, Randolph has collected 13 wins in 19 starts, holding opposing batters to a .186 BA. She is currently tied for seventh in the nation in shutouts (six), eighth in ERA (1.08), and 12th in strikeouts (158)

The pitching staff as a whole has combined to post a 1.96 ERA.

National Polls
In the latest installment of the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, the Eagles continue to receive votes (two) to come in ranked at No. 36. FGCU began the season garnering votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll.

ASUN Championship
FGCU will play host to the 2019 ASUN Softball Championship Wednesday-Saturday, May 8-11. This will mark the second time FGCU will serve as hosts for the tournament, the first time coming back in 2016. The winner of the event will earn the ASUN's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship tournament. Game times and ticket information will be announced at a later date.

Scouting the Owls
FAU is currently on a three-game skid, falling to Western Kentucky on the road in conference play in which they were outscored 22-5 in the series. Senior Mia Olson leads the team in hitting with a .344 BA, she's also seen 16 appearances in the circle, going 4-10 with a 3.26 ERA. The Owls have stolen 52 bases this season as senior Madisyn Palmer leads the Owls with 26.

In the circle, FAU has utilized six pitchers, combining for a collective 2.67 ERA. Senior Kelsey Morrison has a team-best six victories while owning a 2.59 ERA.
This will be the second meeting this year between both programs. Back on Feb. 23, FGCU fell on the road to FAU, 8-3. In the all-time series, the Green and Blue trail FAU, 4-7.

COACH DEIROS
The founding father of FGCU softball, David Deiros is in his 17th season as head coach. Hired in 2001 to build the program from the dirt up, Deiros has since guided the Eagles to a 627-329-3 (.657), going 142-87 (.623) in the ASUN, having 13 seasons with a winning record, and nine campaigns with 35 wins. Deiros is a former head coach at the 1998 Florida State Runner-up Lely High School in Naples and is the founding head coach of the 1999 District Champion/2001 Regional Runner-up Gulf Coast High School in Naples.

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 75 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 11+ seasons at the Division-I level. Additionally, in just seven+ seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 35 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Seven FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport – including both men's and women's soccer again in 2018. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best 6th-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.35 GPA in the classroom in the Spring, 2018 and had an ASUN Conference and State of Florida best five teams earn the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport.  The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours – being recognized as one of two runner-ups for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
