PREVIEW: Adderly, @FGCU_WBB Head To Jacksonville Saturday For Rivalry Matchup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The FGCU women's basketball team (23-4, 14-0) will be back in action on the road Saturday against Jacksonville (14-14, 7-8) in a 2 p.m. tilt at Historic Swisher Gymnasium.

The Eagles will carry the nation's fifth-longest winning streak, 14 games, into the matchup, and they remain as one of only seven teams across the country still undefeated in conference play. Moreover, the Green and Blue reached 15 games with at least 10 3-point field goals for the 11th straight season behind last Saturday's 10-for-20 performance, and they are now seven makes away from 10 consecutive seasons with at least 300 makes.

Jacksonville Notes
The Dolphins are coming off a 68-59 loss to North Alabama on Wednesday in which senior Rolanda Hayes poured in 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting, while adding three assists and three steals.

Saturday's game will represent the home and regular season finale for the Dolphins, who will honor their graduating seniors prior to tipoff. One of those seniors, Jasmyn Brown, was a preseason all-conference selection and is one of the top players in the ASUN. She has recorded nearly 1,300 points in her career and is averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest this year.

Jacksonville ranks 15th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense as opponents are shooting just 27 percent against them. They held the Eagles to a 7-for-22 (.318) percent in the season's first matchup. Speaking of that matchup, Nasrin Ulel scored an ASUN season-high 26 points against the Dolphins on Feb. 2. Keri Jewett-Giles added 16 and Lisa Zderadicka had 13, while Destiny Washington had 10 points and 10 rebounds. FGCU's starting lineup scored 73 of the team's 82 points in the contest.

FGCU has held opponents to single-digit quarters 19 times in conference play, including five over the past three games.

Breakout Star
Nasrin Ulel (421 points) is on pace for 499 points this season, which would rank her seventh in program history - just behind Whitney Knight's 504 points from 2014-15, and it would check in fourth-best in the Division-I era. She has already scored 79 more points than she did all of last year - in nine fewer games. Furthermore, Ulel's 15.6 PPG is currently the fourth-best single season average overall and second-best in the Division-I era.

Alico Arena Tidbits
Nasrin Ulel is eighth in Alico Arena history with 75 3-point field goals made. Should she maintain her current 16.9 PPG season average at home, she would become one of just four players in program history to attain a 16 PPG or higher average throughout a single season at home.

Tytionia Adderly's 446 rebounds is just 18 shy of passing Sarah Hansen (463, 2010-14) for the most in Alico Arena history. In the team's win over North Alabama on Feb. 5, she passed Hansen (174, 2010-14) for the arena's offensive rebounding record and now has 181. With her six points in last weekend's win over Kennesaw State, she has exactly 300 points in her home career.

The trio of Adderly (14 vs North Alabama, Feb. 5, 2019), Ulel (11 vs Jacksonville, Feb. 2, 2019) and Davion Wingate (11 vs Johnson and Wales, Dec. 14, 2018) have produced three of Alico Arena's 14 best single games in field goals made this year alone.

Best in Program History
Tytionia Adderly, who was ranked as the best rebounder in program history by head coach Karl Smesko in a recent post-game interview, moved up to second all-time for career rebounds with her 16 against North Alabama on Feb. 5. She now has 785 and is only 15 rebounds shy of joining Sarah Hansen (887, 2010-14) as one of just two players in program history with at least 800 career rebounds.

Adderly is the top-ranked player in the program's Division-I era in rebounds per game (8.4), defensive rebounds per game (5.0) and offensive rebounds per game (3.4). Her 8.4 rebounds per game this year ranks as the second-best in the same era, and she's on pace to have the top three single season averages entering her senior year in 2019-20. Furthermore, she's on pace for her third top-five single season in offensive rebounds.

I'll Take Two For 1,000, Alex
Destiny Washington became the second Eagle on this year's team to join the 1,000 point club in the team's road win over Lipscomb, joining fellow senior Lisa Zderadicka. They're just two of 14 players to reach the milestone while wearing the Green and Blue. A 15th - Jordin Alexander - reached 1,000 points prior to joining FGCU.

Three others are also approaching 1,000 points, led by Nasrin Ulel (866), Davion Wingate (807) and Keri Jewett-Giles (802).

Washington Does It All
Destiny Washington is just the second player in program history, along with Whitney Knight, to reach at least 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 100 blocks, 100 steals and 100 assists while wearing the Green and Blue.

Mid-Major Power
Over the past four seasons, FGCU has recorded 121 wins, which is the most among all mid-majors and seventh-most among any Division-I program, trailing only UConn (148), Notre Dame (137), Baylor (135), South Carolina (129), Mississippi State (126) and Maryland (123). On top of that, the program is one of only six in Division-I with three 30-win seasons during that stretch – joining UConn, Baylor, Notre Dame, Maryland and South Carolina.

Leading the 3-Point Revolution
Head coach Karl Smesko has turned FGCU into one of the premier 3-point shooting teams in the nation. This season alone, NCAA Division-I teams have recorded 19 games with at least 18 3-point field goals made, and the Eagles own four of them - the only school among the group with that many.

In 2017-18, the Green and Blue made an NCAA Division-I single season record 431 3-pointers on 1,190 attempts, equating out to a .362 percentage. In doing so, the team made and attempted over twice as many as they did in the program's initial season in 2002-03 (212-for-535). Since that first year, FGCU has made at least 300 in a season 10 times, including each of the past nine seasons. They are 17 makes shy of pushing the total to 11.

In 16 + seasons, Smesko's teams have shot a combined 5,149-for-14,893 (.346) from long range, or 9.37 per game. Earlier this season, Kerstie Phills (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian HS) made the program's 5,000th 3-point field goal. In fact, the team has made at least one 3-point field goal in 435 straight games and went without at least one make in only one game in program history – Feb. 21, 2006 vs Lynn University (0-for-11).

ASUN CHAMPIONSHIP TICKET RESERVATIONS AVAILABLE FOR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS
The FGCU ticket office is still accepting reservations from season ticket holders for potential ASUN Championship games hosted in Alico Arena. If you're a season ticket holder and interested in reserving your current seats, upgrading your seat location or requesting additional seats, fill out and return the form here. Every effort will be made to place your tournament tickets in the same location as your season tickets. Women's home quarterfinal tickets went on sale to the general public at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21.

COACH SMESKO
FGCU head coach Karl Smesko led the 2017-18 Eagles to another historic season. The Green and Blue finished 31-5 overall and 13-1 in ASUN play, capturing the program's eighth ASUN regular season championship and fifth ASUN tournament championship. The team finished the season ranked 25th in the final USA Today Coaches Poll, recaptured the NCAA record for most 3-point field goals made in a season with 431 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in seven seasons, where the Eagles knocked off 5th-seeded and No. 15 ranked Missouri in the opening round. It was the team's second tournament win over the past three appearances. Over the course of the season, FGCU knocked off three ranked teams - No. 15 Missouri, No. 20 Kentucky and No. 21 DePaul.

Over the past four seasons, Smesko has guided FGCU to three 30 plus win seasons while recording a 121-23 (.840) record overall. The now eight-time ASUN Coach of the Year rallied the 2016-17 team to its seventh straight 25-win campaign, culminating in an ASUN tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. In 2015-16, he was named the espnW mid-major coach of the year following a run that witnessed the Eagles claim a WNIT runner-up finish and a Division-I program best ever 33-6 record. In 2014-15, the team achieved its first-ever top-25 ranking and made another trip to the NCAA Tournament, where the Eagles earned a No. 7 seed and won the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament game, toppling No. 10 seed Oklahoma State.

Smesko has guided the Eagles to 15-straight 20-win seasons (including 2018-19) and eight-straight 25-win seasons. He maintains a record of 519-118 (.815) overall in his career, including a 184-16 (.920) mark in ASUN play. Over the past seven + seasons, he has guided FGCU to a 122-4 (.968) record in conference play with four undefeated seasons. Smesko earned his 400th career coaching win in 2014-15 in just 493 career games, two games faster than UConn's Geno Auriemma. Entering 2018-19, he ranked among an elite list of just four active Division I coaches with a career win percentage of .800 or higher, joining Auriemma, Baylor's Kim Mulkey and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer in the esteemed group. Second-year NCAA Division-I head coaches Nancy Fahey (Illinois) and Bart Brooks (Belmont) pushed the list to six.
