Box Score TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The FGCU women's tennis team (3-3) suffered a 4-0 loss Saturday afternoon to 20th-ranked FSU (6-1).
"Today we were challenged by Florida State," said head coach
Courtney Vernon. "They are a tough team but so are we. The main area that we will continue to focus on is sticking to our plan by fighting for every ball no matter what. We'll grow a lot from today and we can't wait to get back to work."
In doubles competition, FSU claimed the top two courts but the tandem of
Patricia Villar (Logrono, Spain/Bachillerato Santa Maria/Louisiana Monroe) and
Sara Kelly (Naples, Fla./Florida Virtual) came away victorious on court No. 3 with a 7-5 decision. Villar and Kelly now move to 2-0 this season in doubles play.
Trailing 1-0 going into singles, the Eagles would fall to the Seminoles on courts No. 5, No. 3 and No. 1. On court No. 2, Kelly was looking to come back after dropping her first set to No. 49-ranked Carla Touly but the match would go unfinished in the second set tied at 4-4.
