SAN DIEGO, CA – The FGCU softball team (7-6) will play five games in six days at the San Diego Classic starting Friday afternoon.

Last Time Out
The FGCU softball team dropped a close 1-0 road contest to USF Wednesday night. Senior pitcher Riley Randolph (St. Petersburg, FL./Northeast HS) conceded her second earned run of the year in the first as she tossed six innings of three-hit softball, striking out 11 batters. At the plate, senior Kate Kelly (Cape Coral, FL./Seminole State College) finished the night going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Scouting the Cougars
BYU boasts a 6-7 overall record and will play Thursday evening against San Diego State. In 11 games so far this season, Rylee Jensen is batting .429 with 12 RBI and four home runs. Olivia Sanchez is hitting .375 with 10 RBI, pairing that with two home runs.

In the circle, Autumn Moffat is 3-3 this year and owns a 2.25 ERA while fanning 29 batters in 29.2 frames. Kerisa Viramontes is 1-2 with a 5.24 ERA.

FGCU is 1-0 all-time against BYU as the last meeting between both teams came back in 2009 where FGCU picked up a 5-4 victory in Clearwater, FL.

Scouting the Toreros
San Diego owns a 5-9 overall mark and is coming off a three-game sweep of Southern Utah. Sara Silverya leads the squad at the plate with a .412 BA with seven RBI. Taylor Spence has a .405 BA and a team-high 13 runs scored.

Delaney Heller boasts a 3-4 record in the circle with a 7.34 ERA. In seven innings of relief, Hannah Boos owns a 3.00 ERA.

This will be the first meeting between both teams.  

Scouting the Spartans
Coming off a four-game win streak, San Jose State owns a 9-5 overall record. Makayla Englestad leads the team in hits with 15 in 41 at-bats and has a .366 BA, and six RBI. Arianna Miranda has a .324 batting average with a team-high 10 RBI.

In the circle, Jenessa Ullegue (3-1) has a 1.48 ERA in 33 IP, has pitched a pair shut-outs, and is tied for a team-high 23 strikeouts this season with Caroline Bowman, who is 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA.

This will be the first meeting between both teams.  

Scouting the Prospectors
Long Beach State boasts a 6-8 overall record, most recently dropping its last two contests. Offensively, Sydney McCollum holds a .350 BA with five RBI and one home run while Nicole Fry is hitting .320 with nine RBI and four home runs.

In the circle, Devyn Magnett (1-1) has a 2.95 ERA in 21.1 IP, striking out eight. Ashley Coleman (3-4) has appeared in 30 IP with a 4.90 ERA with 21 strikeouts.

This will be the first meeting between both teams. 

Scouting the Broncos
Boise State, who is receiving votes, is 10-2 overall and have won its last nine games, their lost loss being against No. 9 Texas. Morgan Lamb leads the team in hitting with a .471 average. Meanwhile, Kora Wade has a .390 BA and leads the team in both hits (16) and runs (12) as Alison Heng owns a team-leading 13 RBI.

In the circle, Kelsey Broadus (5-0) has a 1.35 ERA in 35.2 IP collecting a team-high 23 strikeouts. Gianna Mancha (4-1) owns a 2.66 ERA in 26.1 IP with 16 strikeouts.

This will be the first meeting between both teams. 

Scouting the Aztecs
San Diego State is 8-7 overall, most recently dropping its last game to Loyola Marymount. Kiera Wright is batting .333 with three RBI and 12 runs. Kelsey Munoz boasts a .326 BA with a team-highs in RBI (10) and home runs (two).

Marissa Moreno (5-1) leads the team with a 3.31 ERA in 53.1 IP including two shutouts and has collected 48 strikeouts. Alicia Garcia (1-3) has posted a 5.73 ERA in 14.2 IP with eight fanned batters.

This will be the first meeting between both teams.

COACH DEIROS
The founding father of FGCU softball, David Deiros is in his 17th season as head coach. Hired in 2001 to build the program from the dirt up, Deiros has since guided the Eagles to a 619-320-3 (.665) overall mark, 13 seasons with a winning record, and nine campaigns with 35 wins. Deiros is a former head coach at the 1998 Florida State Runner-up Lely High School in Naples and is the founding head coach of the 1999 District Champion/2001 Regional Runner-up Gulf Coast High School in Naples.
