HOUSTON, Texas – The FGCU women's tennis team (3-3) will remain on the road this weekend as the Eagles face Houston 2pm Saturday afternoon.
Last Time Out
The Eagles faced their second ranked opponent this season, falling to No. 20 FSU, 4-0. Despite the loss, the Green and Blue claimed a doubles win on court No. 3 with
Sara Kelly (Naples, Fla./Florida Virtual) and
Patricia Villar (Logrono, Spain/Bachillerato Santa Maria/Louisiana Monroe) producing a 7-5 win.
Scouting the Cougars
Under first year head coach Helena Besovic, Houston is 5-2 so far, going 1-0 in the American Athletics Conference (AAC). The Cougars closed out last weekend with a pair of wins over Wichita State (4-0) and Stephen F. Austin (7-0). Ndindi Ndunda boasts a 4-3 on court No. 1 this season. Meanwhile, the top doubles team of Phonexay Chitdara and Sophie Gerits hold a 4-0 record.
This will be the second meeting between both programs since 2013 when Houston claimed a 4-3 victory in Fort Myers.

HEAD COACH COURTNEY VERNON
FGCU's women's tennis team is led by three-time ASUN Coach of the Year Courtney Vernon, who led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN regular-season crowns in her fifth season in 2018. She has mentored her student-athletes into earning 56 ASUN All-Conference and All-Academic honors, including the 2014, 2016 and 2017 ASUN Freshman of the Year as well as the 2016 and 2017 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the 2018 Player of the Year. Vernon has led the Green and Blue to a 64-45 overall record (.592) and 27-5 conference record (.827) in her six years at FGCU.
