JACKSON, Miss. - Coming off an emotional win on Wednesday night against Miami, the FGCU baseball team (20-5) extended its winning streak to seven games following a 6-3 win over Jackson State (17-8).

Mario Leon (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) made his seventh and earned his fourth win of the season, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing just one earned run while Trey Vickery (Port Orange, Fla./Spruce Creek HS) earned the save.

"It was a good Friday night win," said head coach Dave Tollett. "Mario pitched really well and our bats did enough to get the win. Hats off to Vickery for coming in to get the final six outs of the game. It was important to follow up the Miami win with a good win on the road."

The Eagles got off to a strong start when Spencer Levine (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian Senior HS/Seminole State College) hit a three-run home run in the second to put FGCU ahead 3-0 after Richie Garcia (Davie, Fla./West Broward HS) led off the inning with a double.

Just an inning later, FGCU added another run when Kohl Gilmore (Fort Pierce, Fla./John Carroll HS/Indian River State) doubled home a run for his 26th RBI of the season to make it 4-0. Jackson State, however, would score two in the home-half to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Tigers added another run to make it to 4-3, but in the seventh, Marc Coffers (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier HS) scored on a wild pitch and Jay Hayes (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS) singled home the sixth Eagles' run to open up another three-run lead.

Vickery took over in the eighth and pitched 2.0 innings out of the bullpen and earned his first save of the season.
