Marck-Sherk's 4th Place Finish Helps @FGCU_WGolf Secure 3rd Place In WKU Spring Break Shootout

DADE CITY, Fla. - Madeline Marck-Sherk recorded the team's best individual finish of the year to lead the FGCU women's golf team to a third-place showing at the WKU Spring Break Shootout on Tuesday.

Marck-Sherk (Ridgeway, Ontario/Ridgeway Crystal Beach HS) finished fourth among 84 golfers behind a final round 76 that gave her a three-round tally of 222 (+6). Her finish is a team individual best of the year, topping her own ninth place showing at the USF Intercollegiate on Oct. 30-31.

Furthermore, the team's third place finish is the best of the year in non-match play format. The Eagles finished second in the Mid-American Match Play Challenge on Feb. 5-6, but tied for fourth in the Amelia Island Collegiate on Feb. 19-20. In fact, since the spring season started, the Green and Blue have recorded its top three finishes of the year.

"I'm proud of the girls for their top three finish and very proud of Madeline for her fourth place finish," FGCU head coach Sarah Trew said. "We played OK today overall. I would say everybody can definitely take something they can work on from here. Next week, we are heading to a course that we have very fond memories of and are excited to get back out there."

FGCU finished 29 strokes behind first-place Western Kentucky, who co-hosted the tournament with the Eagles.

Kelsy Holbert (T-12, 228, +12) and Natalia Nassar (T-21, 231, +15) each earned top-25 individual performances. Holbert (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner HS) had a pair of 75's in the first two rounds, while Nassar's (Floridablanca, Colombia/Colegio Panamericano) final round 74 was the best on the team.

Kate Williamson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy HS) saved her best round for Tuesday with a 77. She finished tied for 39th with a 234 (+18). Madison Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot HS), who had a hole in one on Monday en route to the best overall round of the tournament for FGCU (72), tied for 49th with a 239 (+23).

Jean Tyrrell (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North HS) finished in a tie for 54th place. She competed as an individual and finished with a 240 (+24).

NOTES
Easterbrook's 72 was also her best round of the year.

Marck-Sherk's 71 tied her second round total from the Johnie Imes Invitational on Oct. 3, which was her best of the year.

COACH TREW
Head coach Sarah Trew is in her 7th season at the helm of the FGCU women's golf team. She took over in 2011 and has since guided the Eagles to the program's best-ever finish in the ASUN Tournament and 24 top-5 finishes. The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically. The spring of 2015 saw the Eagles again take third place at the ASUN Championship, and recording their best team score of the season while 2016 again set a new standard. In 2015-16, Trew earned her first ASUN Coach of the Year title after the squad recorded a new program best with a 305.29 average and took second-place at the conference tournament – the program's best finish in the event. In the second round of that tournament, the Eagles carded a team score of 290 to set a low-round program record. The 2016-17 Eagles repeated that success with another second-place finish in the ASUN Championship and for the third time since Trew took over, set a new record with a 302.30 stroke average on the season.
