LAST TIME OUT- FGCU took a huge step forward in the ASUN race Thursday night as they held serve at home against conference newcomer Liberty in a 1-0 win.  The Eagles secured their spot in the ASUN quarterfinals with the three points and also put themselves back in the conversation for a first round bye and a potential home playoff game.

The Eagles peppered the Lady Flames with 23 shots, including 16 in the first half in the win.  However, FGCU's lone goal of the contest came in the 31st minute when Holly Fritz (Cape Coral, FL/Mariner HS/Florida State) played a long ball through to Marjorie Boilesen (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Porto Seguro/West Florida) who carried the ball into the attacking third before dishing it to Evdokia Popadinova (Hadzhidimovo, Bulgaria/Nikola Vaptsarov/Northwestern Ohio) who finished with a rocket off of her right foot to the top 90 for her league leading 11th goal of the year.

The FGCU backline was strong for most of the night, allowing just three Liberty shots on goal in the win.  The Green and Blue did avert disaster in the 85th minute when a Flames shot rung the crossbar before being cleared to keep the clean sheet alive.

HURRICANE MICHAEL RELIEF DONATIONS-  The Green and Blue ask fans to bring items such as hygiene kits, water, blankets, diapers, and personal care items, along with non-perishable food and water to help in the relief efforts for Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle.  After Monday's game, an FGCU staff member will be transporting all collected goods to the Panhandle area for distribution to those in need.

TOP DRAWER TOP 100- Junior Marjorie Boilesen was honored by TopDrawerSoccer.com last week as she was named one of the Top 100 players in the country by the organization. Boilesen checked in at #39 on the list and was the #3 ranked mid-major player.  The Preseason ASUN Player of the Year has five goals and an ASUN best eight assists on the year.

THE WEBBER INTERNATIONAL WARRIORS- The NAIA Warriors come into the contest at 4-8-0 on the year. Last time out, Webber snapped a five game losing streak with a 2-1 win over SCAD Savannah.  After falling behind early, the Warriors tallied a pair of second half goals for the come from behind victory.  The 2-1 final was somewhat of an oddity as the have played in their fair share of high scoring affairs this season, seeing five or more goals scored in nine of 12 contests.

Megan Warner and Luiza Oliveira have accounted for the bulk of the scoring for the Warriors, tallying 11 of their 20 goals on the year. In net, Summer Simpson has seen most of the action, stopping an average of 6.1 shots per game for Webber.

PROMOTIONS- It is Hispanic Heritage Night at the stadium as there will be pregame music and activities around the event as well as free empanadas for the first 50 fans in attendance. The Eagles will continue their 'Cups For Corners' promotion as every time FGCU earns a corner kick, there will be FGCU cups thrown into the stands.  Also, with October being breast cancer awareness month, 2018-2019 pink shirts will be on sale, with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society.

COACH JIM BLANKENSHIP
A veteran of over two decades in collegiate coaching, head coach Jim Blankenship, who was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, has built FGCU women's soccer into a yearly contender in the ASUN Conference and a rising program in the South Region in just 11 seasons. Blankenship started the program in 2007 and has since guided the Eagles to 11 double-digit win seasons, culminating with ASUN Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. In 2011 and 2012 he also led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN Tournament titles and became the first team in the history of the university to make it to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles went on to win the 2014 ASUN Tournament and hosted the first NCAA Championship event on campus. The Eagles earned their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance with the 2015 ASUN Tournament Championship and won their first NCAA game at USF in 2015 while finishing 24th in the nation. In 2016, the Eagles made it three-consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament with a third-straight ASUN Tournament title. A year later, the Eagles became the first ASUN women's soccer program to make four-straight NCAA Tournaments with another tournament title in 2017. Blankenship has guided FGCU to a 153-54-23 (71.5 W%) overall record through the first 12 seasons of the program's existence, including a 75-14-14 (79.6 W%) mark in the ASUN. Blankenship's impressive career record of 393-125-34 (74.3 W%) over 26 seasons has come while leading FGCU, the University of Miami, Lynn University and St. Thomas University.
