DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The FGCU volleyball team continues its 11 game road trip, with a non-conference match at Bethune-Cookman before opening ASUN conference play on the road against Stetson.
The Eagles' contest against the Wildcats is slated to begin at 6 p.m. in Daytona Beach while the conference-opener in DeLand is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first serve.
THE GREEN AND BLUE
FGCU turned in an impressive performance at the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana University. The Eagles shutout Samford and UNLV, before falling to the host Hoosiers 3-2. The Eagles were awarded the tournament title, claiming the tiebreaker over both Indiana and Samford.
Amanda Carroll (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia HS), currently ranks 40th in the country in kills (192) and 18th in kills per set (4.57). Carroll, who recorded her 1,000th kill in the matchup against Wofford in the Davidson Classic, joined fellow teammates,
Maggie Rick (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity Catholic HS) and
Karissa Rhoades (Valrico, Fla./Bloomingdale Senior HS) on the Hoosier Classic All-Tournament Team. Looking to defend her title as the ASUN Setter of the Year, Rick ranks 50th in the country in assists (470) and 24th in assists per set (11.19). Rhoades is maintaining 4.31 digs per set following a run of 11-straight contests of double-digit digs that ended against Indiana.
SCOUTING BETHUNE-COOKMAN
Bethune (2-4) was scheduled to compete in the USF Invitational last weekend; however, the event was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. The B-CU recently competed in the Bash at the Boro hosted by Georgia Southern. The Wildcats beat Charlotte 3-2 and hosts Georgia Southern 3-1, but would fall to UNF 3-1.
Jordan Jefferson leads the team in kills (85) behind six-straight double-doubles.
Meraiah Hill and Rakaya Neel have combined a total 45 blocks, with the latter earning Tournament MVP honors at the Bash in the Boro.
The Eagles are 10-0 all-tima against the Wildcats. FGCU won both contests last season, sweeping B-CU before taking a 3-1 win later in the year.
SCOUTING STETSON
The Hatters (1-11) recently competed in the FAU Invitational, dropping two of the three matches. They lost 3-1 to both host FAU and North Dakota State before claiming their first victory against Savannah State, 3-0.
Eva Deisa leads the team with 115 kills while Naina Ivanova leads the team with 389 assists.
Hao Jin leads the team with 41 total blocks.
FGCU is 17-2 against Stetson all-time. FGCU swept both matches last season, extending its win streak over the Hatters to seven. Stetson's last win against FGCU was in November of 2013, a 3-1 victory for the Hatters.

COACH BOTSFORD
Head coach
Matt Botsford finished his third season at the helm of the FGCU volleyball. In 2016, Botsford's squad produced one of its most successful seasons ever at 27-6, with the win total representing the most in Division I program history and falling two shy of the all-time mark. His teams have combined for an overall 74-33 (.692) record, including a 32-10 (.762) mark in ASUN play. In his inaugural season, the Eagles finished with a record of 19-11 with a second-place ASUN finish. Botsford has coached 15 All-Conference selections in his three seasons. Prior to his time in Southwest Florida, Botsford held successful stints as an assistant at Notre Dame, Miami, IUPUI, Indianapolis and most recently Colorado State. A former professional volleyball player, he is a 1998 graduate of Tri-State University (now Trine), where he earned a degree in Social Studies Education. He earned a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Indianapolis.
