Eagles finish with a 303 to maintain the fourth-place standing through three rounds

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – The FGCU women's golf team finished with a fourth-place standing through the final round of action at the Georgia State John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate Tuesday, Mar. 29. The Eagles carded a team score of 303 in the last of three rounds at Eagle's Landing Golf Club and produced a total team score of 905 after carding scores of 297 and 305 in the first two rounds.

The team again saw four individual scores at 78 or better in the third round and maintained the fourth-place position on the leaderboard through the event. The final team score ranks 18 strokes behind tournament champion Elon and just six strokes out of Western Kentucky's second-place score. Western Michigan took third place only one stroke ahead of FGCU, while Western Carolina and Eastern Kentucky tied for fifth with scores of 910.

"I'm very proud of the way we played today," said head coach Sarah Trew. "The hole locations were tricky but we played smart and still managed to make quite a few birdies. We had a few tough holes in the middle of the round but fought back for every shot and bounced back for a great finish. One of our team goals has been to put three solid rounds together and we did that this tournament. I'm proud of Myka for her consistent play to finish top-10 as an individual. It's exciting to post our best tournament of the spring heading into the conference tournament."

Senior Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/ S.M.K. Cochrane) led the Green and Blue with a three-round score of 221 and a sixth-place finish among the field of over 80 golfers. Yong carded scores of 74 in the first and second rounds and concluded play with a 73 on Tuesday. After teeing off on hole four, Yong began her round with a bogey and added a double just four holes later but quickly rebounded with a birdie on hole nine. Yong went into hole 10 at plus-2 but quickly moved to plus-4 with back-to-back bogeys. With 10 holes to play, the senior fired seven even-par holes and added birdies on 12, 15 and one to conclude the round. The strong end-game play brought Yong's score to plus-1 and gave her the team's best finish.

Madeline Marck-Sherk (Ridgeway, Ontario/Ridgeway Crystal Beach High School) matched her best round of the event with a 75 in the third round. The rookie finished the three-day tournament with a total score of 227 and a 16th-place standing. After rounds of 75 and 77 in the first two days, Marck-Sherk got off to a quick start Tuesday morning. She fired birdies on her first two holes and even after struggling on two holes, held a plus-1 score through nine. Marck-Sherk carded a birdie on hole 15 and finished her round with three bogeys and five even-par holes for the 75.

Junior Megan Blonien (Altus, Okla./Altus High School/Oklahoma State) struggled with eight bogeys on her first 15 holes but finished her round with consecutive birdies on holes three and four. The birdies saved her round from entering the 80s as the junior finished the day with a plus-6 score of 78. Blonien's Tuesday score added to marks of 73 and 77 in the first two rounds and gave her a top-20 individual finish with a score of 228.

Madison Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot High School) finished just one stroke behind Blonien with a 229 final score through three rounds. Easterbrook carded a 75 and 77 in the first two go arounds and added a 77 in the final day of play. Her third round included three bogeys, two doubles and two birdies with 11 even-par holes. The plus-5 round Tuesday pushed Easterbrook for a 20th place finish in the field.
