FORT MYERS, Fla. – Matt Fischer and George Nunnelley have each been named FGCU athletics communication assistants, completing the five-person staff which oversees all communication efforts for the department's 15 teams.
 
In their roles, Fischer and Nunnelley are responsible for strategic communications for select teams, including all website, media, public relations, digital and social networking efforts. Fischer will serve as the primary contact for the volleyball, men's tennis, softball and beach volleyball teams, while Nunnelley will serve as the primary contact for the baseball, men's and women's cross country, swimming and diving and women's tennis programs.
 
"I'm excited and pleased to welcome Matt and George to FGCU, and I'm looking forward to having them assist with expanding the brand of this great athletic department," said Director of Athletics Communication Jason MacBain. "Both have tremendous work ethics, and their creativity and passion will help take our communication efforts to an unforeseen level to better serve our constituents."
 
Fischer and Nunnelley join MacBain, Assistant Director of Athletics Communication Jamie Church and Coordinator of Video Operations Curtis Lestan on staff. Both Fischer and Nunnelley have already began their tenures at FGCU.
 
Originally from Plainfield, Ill., Fischer spent two years as a graduate assistant in the Athletics Communication Office at Western Illinois University. While at WIU, Fischer served as the primary contact for women's soccer, softball, track and field, cross country and swimming and diving. In addition, he assisted with all gameday operations for football and basketball games. 
 
During the 2013-14 season, Fischer promoted the Summit League's Softball Player of the Year as well as a Senior CLASS Award semi-finalist. The following year, he was responsible for gathering materials for Western Illinois' fourth National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) draft pick in program history. 

Fischer is a 2012 graduate of Western Illinois with a degree in broadcasting. He received his Master's degree in sports management from Western Illinois in 2015.
 
Originally from Louisville, Ky., Nunnelley spent the past eight months as a media relations assistant at Coastal Carolina University, where he served as the primary contact for women's lacrosse, outdoor track & field and cross country.

During his time at Coastal, the women's lacrosse team rose to new heights in only its third season as a Division-I program and hosted its first Big South Championship game – a 15-11 overtime win against Campbell University. Additionally, the track & field program sent an individual to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the second consecutive year.

Nunnelley previously served as an intern with the media relations departments at Auburn University, the Louisville Bats Baseball Club and the University of Louisville. He is a 2014 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in journalism and a minor in business.
 
ABOUT FGCU
