Brady Anderson but struggled at the plate in a 4-1 loss to Lipscomb (30-15, 9-6 A-Sun) on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles dropped all three games in the series with the Bisons and fall to 7-7 in the A-Sun.
"It was a disappointing result today," head coach
Dave Tollett said. "Brady matched their guy all afternoon but a couple bad hops cost us runs. We couldn't match with our bats and we are going to need to produce runs going forward if we want to go far at the end of the year." Â
Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) cruised through 8.0 innings on the mound, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out two. A couple of errors in the field led to base runners that came around to score resulting in two more runs. Brady's younger brother
Garrett Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) came out of the pen to pitch the ninth and gave up one more run to settle Lipscomb's tally at four.
At the plate, only
Adam Eggnatz (Tampa, Fla./Middle Georgia College) managed multiple hits, going 2-3 with a bunt single and a single to center.
Nick Rivera (Cape Coral, Fla./Bishop Verot HS) went 1-4 with a double and drove in the only FGCU run in the ninth. Three hits for FGCU tie a season-low after collecting just four hits on Saturday.
The minimum number of batters came to the plate for both team over the first two and a half innings. Eggnatz' bunt single in the third broke the trend but the Eagles would strand the senior at second. The first run of the ball game would come around to score in the top of the sixth. Mike Korte led off with a single to right and moved up to second on a sac bunt. An error in the infield on the next play allowed the runner at second to circle and score to push Lipscomb ahead.
FGCU stranded two more runners in the sixth and Lipscomb added some insurance in the eighth. The first batter of the frame would be hit by a pitch and move up to second via the sacrifice. A throwing error allowed Adam Lee to reach, putting runners on first and third with one out. Lee stole second and Michael Gigliotti singled to center, driving in two runs and making it 3-0.
Garrett took over on the mound in the ninth and would give up one more run before the Eagles came to the plate with a 4-0 deficit.
Tyler Selesky (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) worked a full count before drawing the lead off walk. Rivera then ripped a double to left center, driving in Selesky to make it 4-1. The next three batters would be retired however to end the game.
