FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU softball team (20-22, 3-9 Atlantic Sun) takes a break from A-Sun action to host USF (31-12, 3-4 American Athletic) on Wednesday, Apr. 8, with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
The Eagles will get their second look at USF this season. The Bulls beat FGCU by an 11-0 score on Feb. 15 at the USF President's Day Tournament. USF comes into the game after winning one of two games against Connecticut with the third game in the series being cancelled due to weather.
FGCU is 2-5 all-time against USF. The Bulls have won the last five meetings after the Eagles won the first two games in 2008.
THE GREEN AND BLUESenior
Kelsey Carpenter (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty HS) leads the team in homeruns (5), hits (41), RBI (27), slugging percentage (.538), walks (17) and total bases (64). Freshman
Kelsey Huff (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer HS) has a team-high 28 runs, 19 stolen bases and a batting average of .356.
Junior
Ashley Dobson (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley HS) leads the Eagles with a 3.09 ERA. Dobson has notched 10 wins, which is good for fifth most in the A-Sun, to lead the Green and Blue while adding a team-best 71 strikeouts.
Offensively, the team has held a combined batting average of .273 to go along with 146 RBI and 172 runs. In the circle, the Eagles have a combined ERA of 4.17 in 263.1 innings pitched and have a total of 163 strikeouts.
THE BULLSAt the plate, USF is led by Lee Ann Spivey who is batting .414 and slugging .733 through 43 games. Spivey also adds a team-high eight homers and 43 runs batted in. Kristen Wyckoff is the second threat in the Bulls' lineup with 38 runs and 20 RBI while hitting .371.
Erica Nunn has been the work horse in the circle, pitching 83.2 innings and compiling a 9-5 record with a 1.76 ERA. Susan Wysocki has also pitched 57.1 innings with a 7-1 record and an ERA of 1.59.
UP NEXTThe Eagles will host Jacksonville this Saturday, Apr. 11 and Sunday, Apr. 12 for a trio of contest. The doubleheader on Saturday is slated for 2 p.m. before the series finale on Sunday at 2 p.m. Prior to the start of Sunday's game, FGCU will honor its seniors.

The 2014 Eagles finished with a 33-26-1 and wins over SEC, Big 10, Big East, and ACC opponents. FGCU finished their season with an RPI ranking in the top-100 for the 3rd consecutive season and the 5th time in their seven years at Division I. Deiros is a former head coach at the 1998 Florida State Runner-up Lely High School in Naples and is the founding head coach of the 1999 District Champion/2001 Regional Runner-up Gulf Coast High School in Naples.
