@FGCU_WTEN Faces UNF, Marquette in Final Home Matches

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sitting on top of the Atlantic Sun standings, the FGCU women's tennis team (7-9, 4-0 A-Sun) will host conference co-leader North Florida (13-3, 5-0 A-Sun) this Saturday, Apr. 4, at 10 a.m. at The Nest. With a win over UNF, FGCU can clinch at least a share of its first-ever A-Sun regular season title. The Eagles will have a quick turnaround, facing Marquette on Senior Day, Sunday, Apr. 5, at 10 a.m.

Before the match against Marquette, FGCU will honor a pair of seniors in Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS) and Candela Munoz Giron (Alicante, Spain/Troy) for their significant contributions to the success of the FGCU women's tennis program.

During the last four years, Means has led the team to three-straight A-Sun Tournament appearances and was selected the A-Sun Second Team All-Conference twice, as well as the A-Sun All-Freshman Team.

A junior transfer from Troy University, Munoz Giron made a huge impact for the team in just two short years as she was tabbed an A-Sun Conference First Team All-Conference pick after posting a DI program-best 19 singles wins in 2013-14. Munoz Giron is currently riding a five-match win streak.

SCOUTING UNF
North Florida is currently 13-3 on the season to go with a perfect 5-0 mark in the A-Sun play, after a 4-3 thriller over Stetson on Thursday. Winners of its last five matches, UNF, like FGCU, can secure its A-Sun regular season title with a win.

Taylor Hollander saw the most playing time in the Ospreys' No. 1 singles slot, but was replaced by Esther Zuniga, who is currently 2-2 in the top slot. UNF is superb in the bottom of the lineup as the team is 11-3 in No. 2, 12-4 in No. 4, 12-0 in No. 5 and 11-3 in No 6.

On the doubles court, UNF holds a 7-6 record in the No. 1 slot, but again the bottom two slots have picked the team up, going 8-3 in No. 2 and 12-3 in No. 3.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Marquette flies down to the Sunshine State with a 10-8 record (1-1 Big East), with its most recent result being a 7-0 defeat from No. 36 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. Over the course of the season, the Golden Eagles have produced some big wins, including over Wisconsin, Iowa State and Butler.

Ana Pimienta leads Marquette with a 10-7 record in the singles No. 1 slot, while the No. 5 and 6 slots are the Golden Eagles' stronghold, producing a combined record of 26-8. On the doubles court, Pimienta and Erin Gebes are Marquette's everyday No. 1 doubles team with a 10-6 record.

NEXT UP
FGCU will cap off its regular season with a road trip to DeLand, Fla. to take on Stetson Saturday, Apr. 11, at 10 a.m. The A-Sun Championship will get underway the following weekend (Apr. 17-19) at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
