MIAMI, Fla. – The FGCU softball team (22-26, 5-12 Atlantic Sun) travels to the East Coast for a doubleheader against in-state foe FIU (27-22, 8-13 Conference USA) on Saturday, Apr. 25 with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Eagles hold an all-time record of 4-8 against the Panthers and the two teams split a doubleheader last year.
THE GREEN AND BLUESenior
Kelsey Carpenter (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty HS) leads the team in batting average (.350), homeruns (5), hits (49), RBI (31), runs (31), slugging percentage (.536), walks (18) and total bases (75). Freshman
Kelsey Huff (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer HS) is the teams primary leadoff hitter and is batting .345 on the season and has a team-high 21 stolen bases.
Junior
Ashley Dobson (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley HS) leads the Eagles with a 3.25 ERA. Dobson has notched 10 wins, which is good for ninth most in the A-Sun, to lead the Green and Blue while adding a team-best 80 strikeouts.
Offensively, the team has held a combined batting average of .272 to go along with 165 RBI and 194 runs. In the circle, the Eagles have a combined ERA of 4.14 in 308 innings pitched and have a total of 183 strikeouts.
THE PANTHERSThe Panthers are 27-22 on the season and hold an 8-13 mark in Conference USA play. Last time out FIU dropped a doubleheader against Western Kentucky before winning the third game in the series.
At the plate, FIU is led by Stephanie Texeira who is batting .425 and slugging .743 through 49 games. Texeira also adds 11 doubles, seven homeruns, 48 hits, 47 walks, 44 runs batted in and 84 total bases. Gabby Spallone is the second threat in the Panthers' lineup with five homers and 45 RBI while batting .298.
Corinne Jenkins leads the team in the circle with a 17-9 record and an ERA of 3.27 in 160.2 innings pitched. Amanda Wilson has also pitched 76 innings with a 4-9 record and an ERA of 5.34.
UP NEXTThe Eagles conclude the regular season when they host Lipscomb for a three-game series. The conference matchup will begin with a doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 30 with start times slated for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. game on Friday, May 1.

The 2014 Eagles finished with a 33-26-1 and wins over SEC, Big 10, Big East, and ACC opponents. FGCU finished their season with an RPI ranking in the top-100 for the 3rd consecutive season and the 5th time in their seven years at Division I. Deiros is a former head coach at the 1998 Florida State Runner-up Lely High School in Naples and is the founding head coach of the 1999 District Champion/2001 Regional Runner-up Gulf Coast High School in Naples.
