@FGCU_WGolf Maintains Top-10 Rank Through Two Rounds at John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – With two strokes shaved off their first-round team score, the FGCU women's golf team maintained its ninth-place standing with a total score of 622. The team shot 310 during the second round at Eagle's Landing Country Club and now stands 22 shots behind tournament leader Middle Tennessee State.

Through the second of three rounds, FGCU is tied with Appalachian State, who jumped three positions with a 306 in Monday's round. The Eagles stand ahead of Louisiana Monroe, South Alabama, Stetson, Seattle and Jacksonville State and are just 11 strokes out of the top five. With MTSU leading at 600, Morehead State holds second place at 603, while Troy and host Georgia State take a tie for third with team scores of 604. After standing in second place in the first round, Old Dominion holds fifth place with a total score of 611.

"We played better today but we weren't able to make a run up the leaderboard," said head coach Sarah Trew. "We started out really hot and stalled towards the middle of the round. We left a lot of shots out there from the green and on the putting surface. I'm proud of Myka [Yong] for rebounding how she did. Maddie [Easterbrook] and Chelsea [Guoynes] played consistent as well. Tomorrow we just need to do a better job grinding out the greens and paying more attention out there."

Despite struggling in the second round, junior Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy tops the Eagles on the leaderboard with a total score of 153. Detlefsen stood in second place with a 72 through the first round but fell to 15th with an 81 on Monday. She finished at plus nine in Monday's round with six bogeys, two doubles and a birdie on hole 7 but maintains a position among the top-15 players in the field.

Madison Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot High School) holds the team's second-place standing, just one stroke behind Detlefsen. Easterbrook shot a 77 in the second round to match her first-round score. With her consistency, the freshman stands tied for 18th in the field of over 80 golfers.

Senior Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central High School) matched Easterbrook's second-round score and holds a total score of 157 for 44th place. Guoynes also carded six bogeys with a birdie on hole 9.

Topping Monday's performers was Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane). Yong shot a 75 in the second round with six bogeys and three birdies to take 10 strokes off her first-round score. She sat at plus one through her first nine holes before adding four strokes to her score through her first 15, but carded two birdies in her final three holes to improve. Yong stands at 56th in the field with a total score of 160.

Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) rounds out the Eagles' lineup with a total score of 167. Price added one stroke to her first-round score and finished Monday with an 84.

FGCU will continue action at the John Kirk Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Eagle's Landing. The team will tee off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Live scoring will be available via GolfStat.com, with final results on FGCUAthletics.com.
