@FGCU_WTEN Drops Match at No. 34 FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The FGCU women's tennis team (1-6) dropped its match against No. 34 FSU (2-1) Saturday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center by a 4-0 count.

"Today was another opportunity to stick to the game plan when challenged," said head coach Courtney Vernon. "We are learning to slowly take steps, to do this more and more. Some of the girls are showing vast improvement in sticking to the plan when challenged and learning how to compete in those moments. It takes courage to take the steps to grow and also a lot self-discipline. We look forward to playing at home on Wednesday this coming week."

The duo of Elizabeth Means and Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS) fell to the Seminoles' pair of Daneika Borthwick and Emily Fanning 8-2 while Julianna Curtis (Tampa, Fla./Allendale Academy) and Johanna Sterkel (Schwetzingen, Germany/Carl-Theodor-Schule HS) dropped their match, 8-2, against Yukako Noi and Daniela Schippers which gave FSU the doubles point.

The Green and Blue would not finish three singles matches and dropped the other three to give the Seminoles the 4-0 win. Sterkel was up in her match against Gabriella Castaneda, 7-5, 2-2 before the match was called.

The Green and Blue will return to the court when they welcome the Owls of FAU to the FGCU Tennis Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 18 in a 2 p.m. start.
