FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's golf team continued play at the Eagle Invitational Saturday morning with a combined team score of 319 during round two at Stoneybrook Golf Club. The Eagles shot +31 during an unseasonably chilly day in Southwest Florida to fall to fifth place with a two-day total of 627.
Â
Elon maintained the lead with a round of 308 Saturday, while Daytona State picked up ground in the field with the round's best score at 299. Xavier and Toledo sit in third and fourth place, while the Eagles are tied with Arkansas State in the fifth-place position.
Â
With the fifth-place standing, the Eagles rank more than 20 strokes above Atlantic Sun foes USC Upstate and Northern Kentucky.
Â
"Today was a struggle across the board," said head coach
Sarah Trew. "It was pretty cold across the front 9 and the wind picked up substantially after the first few holes. Overall scores were high in general but we need to work on making our bad days better and not compounding mistakes. We talked today about the fact that we can score well on this course, we just need to play smarter. I am confident we can bounce back tomorrow."

Senior
Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) again led the Eagles with a +5 score of 77 in the second round. Price carded a double bogey on the first hole but rebounded with birdies on 2 and 4 to go even through the front 9. She added five bogeys on the wind-blown back 9 to finish at +5 on the day. With her score of 75 from Friday, Price now sits tied for eighth with a total score of 152.
Â
Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) sits just three strokes behind Price with a score of 155 after two rounds. Yong produced seven bogeys and a birdie on 6 for a +6 score of 78 in the second round. Her two-day total sits in 16th place in the field of 84 golfers.
Â
Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) holds the team's third best score through two rounds with a total of 155. Detlefsen carded a +80 score of 80 in the second round with nine bogeys and a birdie on 4. Detlefsen's round saw seven bogeys on the front 9 but she settled in later in the round and finished with even par on seven of the last nine holes. Her total score puts her in 26th place in the field with one round remaining.
Â
Freshman
Ashley Kimbrough (Clearwater, Fla/Indian Rocks Christian School) currently stands in 63rd after the second round but contributed to the Eagles' team score with a +12 score Saturday. Kimbrough fell behind early with bogeys in her first six holes but was able to steady her game and prevent herself from falling further in the standings.
Â
Madison Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot High School) rounded out the team's contributors Saturday with a +14 score. Easterbrook holds a tie for 49th through two days with a score of 164 after she carded a strong score of 78 in the first round.
Â
The Eagles' individuals were led by
Rebecca VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School), who carded a +8 score of 80 in the second round. VanEtten also stands tied at 49th with a score of 164 through two days.
Â
Gabrielle Brackrog (Highland, Mich./Milford High School) and
Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City High School) marked scores of +12 and +21 in day two to round out the Green and Blue's lineup.
