@FGCU_WGolf Falls to Eighth Place to Conclude 37th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational

Sara Detlefsen led the team with a plus-2 score Tuesday

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – By carding a team score of 314 in the final round of play at the 37th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, the FGCU women's golf team fell to eighth place in the standings with a total score of 923.  The Eagles produced rounds of 306 and 303 in the first two days of play but added strokes in the final round to fall two positions in the final rankings.

"I am disappointed with the way we played today," said head coach Sarah Trew. "We put ourselves in a position to finish in the top-5 and we couldn't get it done.  We just got out competed today and we let some teams in that we shouldn't have. In the offseason, we need to find a way to eliminate silly mistakes and let that competitive fire burn inside of us.  If we can do those two things we will be ready for the spring."

After holding a sixth-place standing after the first and second rounds, the Eagles were jumped by Bradley and Cincinnati in Tuesday's competition to finish tied with North Texas.  Memphis held onto the lead to take the tournament crown with a score of 872 (288-296-288), with Daytona State and FIU finishing in the second and third positions.  Jacksonville and Delaware rounded out the top-5, while Bradley and Cincinnati finished ahead of the Green and Blue.

Individually, Daytona State's Tiffany Chan took the tournament crown with a score of 209. Chan shot minus-2, minus-2 and minus-3 to lead the field of 73 golfers.

Freshman Madison Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot High School) finished in a tie for 19th with a score of 227.  The rookie carded a score of 80 in the final round after shooting 74 and 73 in the first two rounds.  Easterbrook struggled on hole 16 but carded a birdie on 18 in addition to five bogeys on the day.

Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) moved up six positions in the standings with a score of 75 in the final round.  Yong's plus-3 score complemented her scores of 75 and 78 from the first two days to give her a total score of 228 and a 21st-place finish. In Tuesday's round, Yong was minus-1 through five holes before adding four strokes in her back nine to finish plus-3 on the day.

Senior Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) recorded a score of 82 in the final round to finish at 231 and in 31st place. Price was strong in the first two rounds, carding scores of 77 and 72, but struggled with three bogeys, two doubles and finished three strokes over par on hole 3 for an overall plus-10 performance Tuesday.

Rounding out the team score contributors was Rebecca VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School). VanEtten produced a score of 77 in the third round with birdies on holes 4 and 8.  With scores of 80 in the previous two rounds, VanEtten finished the event with a score of 237 and placed 45th.

Freshman Ashley Kimbrough (Clearwater, Fla/Indian Rocks Christian School) and junior Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) also competed at Lakewood Ranch for the Eagles.  Kimbrough finished with a total score of 258 after shooting 85 in the final round, while Detlefsen produced the team's best third-round score at plus-2.  Detlefsen competed as an individual and saw a birdie on 14 and just three bogeys on the day. She finished with a score of 229 for a 23th-place tie.

Tuesday marked the Eagles' final day of competition for the 2014 calendar year. The team will be back in action in February for the start of the spring season. FGCU will host the 2015 Eagle Invitational Feb. 13-15 at StoneyBrook Country Club before competing in three other spring events prior to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
