LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Backed by another strong round from freshman
Madison Easterbrook, the FGCU women's golf team held on to a sixth-place standing after 36 holes at the 37th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational. Monday's round at Lakewood Ranch Country Club saw the Eagles shoot a combined score of 303, three strokes better than their first round, so that the team currently stands with a total score of 609.
"We improved today, which is always the goal, but we also know we left some shots out there," said head coach
Sarah Trew. "We've talked about playing smarter tomorrow and fighting for every shot so that we can move up the leaderboard. I am especially proud of Georgia [Price] and Maddie [Easterbrook] for really grinding it out today. They helped us out in a big way. Tomorrow we want to go out and put up a good number to end the fall season on a positive note."
The team's plus-33 score of 609 holds them among the top half of the 13-team field. Memphis continues to hold the top-standing after carding a score of 296 in the second round. Host FIU moved to second place with a score of 294, while Daytona State, Jacksonville and Delaware round out the top five. FGCU sits tied with North Florida just two strokes behind Delaware in the rankings with one round remaining.
Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot High School) produced a plus-1 score of 73 in the second round at Lakewood Ranch and currently sits in 11th place in the field of 73 golfers. Easterbrook recorded two bogeys and two doubles with birdies on holes 4, 9, 12, 14 and 18 to hold the top position on the team with a total score of 147 (74-73).
Senior captain
Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) carded the Green and Blue's best performance of the day with an even-par score of 72. Price was the team's most consistent player in Monday's round with 13 pars in the complete round. The senior carded a bogey one 1 to start the day but birdied 4 before a double on 7 held her at plus-2 to start. Price's consistency on the front nine proliferated into the back nine as she scored seven pars with birdies on 15 and 18. She finished with a score of 72 and currently stands in a tie for 18th in the field with a total score of 149 (77-72).
Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) sits four strokes behind Price with a total score of 153. Yong carded a plus-6 score of 78 in Monday's round with five bogeys, one double and a birdie on the fourth hole. With scores of 75 and 78, Yong is currently tied for 27th place.
Rounding out the team's contributors is
Rebecca VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School). VanEtten produced a score of 80 in the second round with six bogeys and a double and holds a total score of 160.
Freshman
Ashley Kimbrough (Clearwater, Fla/Indian Rocks Christian School) and junior
Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) also competed at Lakewood Ranch for the Eagles. Kimbrough holds a total score of 173 through two rounds, while Detlefsen ranks 32nd in the field with a score of 155. While competing as an individual, Detefsen produced six bogeys and two birdies Monday.

Trew took over in 2011 and has since guided the Eagles to the program's best-ever finish in the Atlantic Sun Tournament and to 20+ top-10 finished. A year ago, Trew led the team to several records on and off the course. The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically.
