@FGCU_WGolf Moves to 9th Place to Conclude Xavier LPGA Invitational

The Eagles shaved 10 strokes off their second round score to move up

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The FGCU women's golf team fired a team score of 319 in Sunday's final round to finish the 2014 Xavier LPGA International Invitational in ninth place.  The Eagles carded scores of 317, 329 and 319 for a total 965 through the three-day event hosted by Xavier University the LPGA International course.

"I'm happy with the improvement we showed today," said head coach Sarah Trew on the team's 10 stroke improvement. "We made better decisions and stayed true to our game plan and the results were evident. We still have work to do before our next tournament but we are looking forward to making strides in the next two weeks."

Morehead State maintained its position on the leaderboard and earned the team tournament crown with a total score of 887, with Daytona State, Campbell, North Florida and Boston College rounding out the top five.  The Eagles finished 41 strokes out of the top-five and ahead of Florida Atlantic, Creighton and Stetson with a tie with Bethune-Cookman.

Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) continued her leadership for the Green and Blue with a top-30 performance.  She carded a team-best 75 in the final round to finish with a total score of 234 (75-84-75) and a 29th place standing.

Senior Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) placed 38th after shooting a 79 in the final round.  Price finished with a total score of 238 with scores of 79, 80 and 79.

Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) finished among the top-50 participants with a total score of 246. Detlefsen carded an 81 in Sunday's round after recording scores of 81 and 84 on the previous two days.

The freshman duo of Madison Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot High School) and Ashley Kimbrough (Clearwater, Fla/Indian Rocks Christian School) rounded out the Eagle's team lineup with overall scores of 249 and 253, respectively.  Both fired rounds of 84 in the third round.

Rebecca VanEtten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell High School) finished the event with a 64th place standing.  While competing as an individual, VanEtten shot a 90 in the final round to add to her previous scores of 80 and 85.

The Eagles return to action Nov. 2 when they travel north to Lakewood Ranch, Fla. For the prestigious Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club.  The Eagles placed seventh in the event last year in the 17-team field and will return for the sixth-straight year.  FIU's signature event is in its 37th year and will bring some of the best programs in the nation to South Florida in November.

Head coach Sarah Trew is in her fourth season at the helm of the FGCU women's golf team.  Trew took over in 2011 and has since guided the Eagles to the program's best-ever finish in the Atlantic Sun Tournament and to 20+ top-10 finished.  A year ago, Trew led the team to several records on and off the course.  The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically.  The team earned a team grade point average of 3.8 in the fall semester and set the FGCU team record with a 3.92 during the spring of 2014.
