@FGCU_WGolf Falls to 10th Place at Xavier LPGA Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With a total team score of 329 in the second round, the FGCU women's golf team fell to 10th place after the second round at the 2014 Xavier LPGA International Invitational.  The Eagles carded a score of 317 in the first round and stands at 10th in the field of 13 with a total tournament score of 646.

"This course is a pretty tough challenge," said head coach Sarah Trew. "Today everyone collectively struggled. I think we had a couple bad holes and really got frustrated. If this happens on this course, it is easy to make a big number. Tomorrow we are going to be focused on playing confident golf, making good decisions and staying committed to those decisions."

Morehead State maintained the lead with a total score of 595, while Daytona State, Campbell, North Florida and Boston College compiled the top five. The Eagles currently sit ahead of Creighton, Stetson and Florida Atlantic.

Mei Khuan Yong remains the Eagles top contributor and currently stands in 39th place with a total score of 159.  After carding a 75 in the first round, Yong produced an 84 in Saturday's round.

Senior Georgia Price ties Yong at 39th overall with a score of 159. Price shot a 79 in the first round and added just one stroke for the team's best score of the day with an 80 in the second round.

Madison Easterbrook and Sara Detlefsen  sit tied for 54th with total scores of 165.  Easterbrook shot an 84 in the first round and rallied for a score of 81 in the second round, while Detlefsen recorded scores of 81 and 84 in the two rounds.

Freshman Ashley Kimbrough rounds out the Eagle lineup with a place of 64 and a total score of 169.  Kimbrough shot an 82 on Friday and followed with an 87 in Saturday's go around.

Rebecca VanEtten also sits at 54th place with a score of 165.  VanEtten shot an 80 in round one and an 85 in round two while competing as an individual.

The Eagles will conclude play at the 2014 Xavier LPGA International Invitational Sunday, Oct. 12 with an 8:15 a.m. tee time.  Live results are unavailable but second-round scores can be accessed at FGCUAthletics.com or GoXavier.com following completion.

Head coach Sarah Trew is in her fourth season at the helm of the FGCU women's golf team.  Trew took over in 2011 and has since guided the Eagles to the program's best-ever finish in the Atlantic Sun Tournament and to 20+ top-10 finished.  A year ago, Trew led the team to several records on and off the course.  The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically.  The team earned a team grade point average of 3.8 in the fall semester and set the FGCU team record with a 3.92 during the spring of 2014.
