Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A dominating first half performance on both ends of the floor set the tone on Monday night, as Belmont led from start to finish in a 95-53 Atlantic Sun win over FGCU at the Curb Event Center.
The Bruins owned a 49-19 lead by the half as the Eagles slipped to 8-10 on the year and 4-4 in the A-Sun. The league's defending regular season and tournament champion, Belmont is now 6-1 in conference play and 13-6 overall.
Belmont put on an offensive clinic, shooting 55 percent (35-64) from the floor, making 14 three-pointers (14-31), assisting on 27-of-35 made baskets and holding a 40-22 edge on the glass that included 17 offensive caroms.
FGCU shot a season-low 38 percent (18-48) from the field, while freshman Filip Cvjeticanin (Zagreb, Croatia/American School of Madrid) was the only player in double figures with 11 points on 3-of-6 from three-point land. Freshman Bernard Thompson (Conyers, Ga./Rockdale County HS) had seven points, a team-high seven rebounds and three steals.
Seven different players knocked down a three-pointer for Belmont, led by junior Ian Clark's 3-for-6 night that resulted in a game-high 13 points. Clark's backcourt mate Kerron Johnson equaled the game-high of 13 points, while 11 players registered a field goal.
FGCU will hit the halfway point of the A-Sun schedule on Friday, Jan. 20, when it heads to Stetson for a 7 p.m. The in-state showdown is the A-Sun Game of the Week and will be televised on Comcast Sports South.
