Eagles End Road Trip with a 1-0 Win over Bulldogs

Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Florida Gulf Coast women's soccer team shutout the Bulldogs, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Greene-Harbison Stadium. The shutout marks the third in a row for the Eagles.

With the win, the Eagles move to 4-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 on the road. The Bulldogs fall to 1-3-0 on the season.

“Once again we really stepped up, especially of defense,” said head coach Jim Blankenship. “We had a couple great saves, and we created some good opportunities.”

Saturday afternoon's game was a tough match for both teams, playing in temperatures reaching the low 90's. The heat, mixed with all of the humidity, didn't allow much action in the first half of play. Only five shots were taken in the first half between the two teams (GWU-3, FGCU-2).

The Eagles broke the scoring drought in the 66th minute when sophomore Lindsay Haw (Palm City, Fla.) scored for the third time this week after a nice cross by freshman Gina Petracco (Fort Myers, Fla.) from the left side. Haw's goal turned out to be the game-winner as FGCU held Gardner-Webb to just two shots in the second half.

Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla.) recorded her second shutout of the season, recording four saves.

The Eagles will be back at home on September 10th to face Howard at 7:00 pm at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
