Women's Soccer Shuts Out USC Upstate

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer team defeated Atlantic Sun Conference foe, USC-Upstate 4-0 in dominating fashion. With the win, the Eagles improve 9-3-3 and 4-1-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Spartans fall to 3-13-0 and (1-8-0 A-Sun).

The Eagles got an early opportunity with a corner kick in the second minute. Freshman Amanda Goble (Lutz, Fla.) headed the serve by sophomore Caytlan MacKenzie (Calgary Alberta, Canada). After a save by Spartan goalie Brittany Daughtry, freshman Gina Petracco (Ft. Myers, Fla.) collected the rebound and gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

FGCU extended their lead to 2-0 when sophomore Casey Lademann (Flagler Beach, Fla.) collected the ball from 28 yards out and got her shot under the left cross bar.

The Eagles would put the game out of reach 18 minutes into the second half when sophomore Lindsay Haw (Palm City, Fla.) sent a pass to the right side of the box to junior Amber McCall (Ft. Myers, Fla.) who put the ball in the back of the net to make it 3-0. The Eagles would take 4-0 with Casey Lademann notching her second goal of the game. After her initial shot was blocked, Lademann collected her own rebound and put her shot in the back of the net.

The Eagles would outshoot the Spartans 19-6 with 16 of those shots on goal. Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla.) and Kirsi Keenan (Boca Raton, Fla.) combined on the shutout, each making two saves.

The Eagles will be back in action Sunday afternoon when they travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, where they battle A-Sun foe ETSU. The Eagle return home Saturday November 1st for there final regular season game against Stetson at 5:00 P.M.
