Box Score Macon, Ga. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer dropped its second consecutive game as they fell to the Mercer Bears by the final score of 4-1 in the 2008 A-Sun regular season opener.
The Bears (1-5-2) scored the match's first goal when freshman Philip Thoren set up Ian Cameron to knock in a right-footed kick into the right corner of the net in the 16th minute.
Bolade Ogunmade gave the Bears a two-goal cushion at the 36:42 mark when he pounded a header into the right side of the goal. Cameron got his second goal of the match off a penalty kick in the 38th minute, giving the Bears a 3-0 lead at intermission.
The Eagles (2-6-1) scored their only goal of the match in the 79th minute after Cristian Raudales (Bradenton, Fla.) won a jump ball and flicked a header into the right side of the net past Mercer goalkeeper, David Bird.
With Mercer leading 3-1, Ogunmade capitalized on a penalty kick for his second goal of the match to give the Bears a 4-1 lead.
Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) and Derek Miller (Auburndale, Fla.) split time between the pipes. Miller, who same game action for just the second time in his career, tallied a save in 45 minutes in goal.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, October 2 when they face Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
