Women's Basketball Wins Record 10th Straight

FORT MYERS, Fla. '" The Florida Gulf Coast University women'™s basketball team dominated Lynn University for their record-setting 10th consecutive win to open the season. The Eagles held the Knights to their lowest offensive output of the year in a 79-43 rout in South Region basketball action at Alico Arena Monday night. The Eagles scored the first seven points of the game and built a 22-6 lead midway through the first half before opening a 45-16 lead at the break. It was the ninth time this season that FGCU has held an opponent to less than 20 points in a half. FGCU held a 30-point lead for nearly the entire second half. Junior forward Katie Schrader led three Eagles in double figures with a game-high 17 points, including 15 points in the first half. Senior guard Ebonie Halliburton added 16 points, including 14 first-half points, while junior forward Alex Nelson had 13 points for the winners. In all, 11 players hit the scoring column for FGCU, which topped 75 points for the eighth time this season. FGCU, which held Lynn to just 23.5 % shooting from the field, allowed more than 40 points for just the second time this season. The Eagles forced 29 turnovers and had a 16-3 advantage in steals. FGCU'™s win topped the nine straight victories that opened the inaugural 2002-03 season. Lynn (5-3) was led by Megan Osmer'™s 12 points. The Fighting Knights return to action on Thursday when they host Northwood. FGCU (10-0) tries to continue its unbeaten streak when it hosts the University of West Florida on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
