Kenna Olsen joined the FGCU Department of Athletics in January 2021, and was promoted to Head Athletic Trainer in December 2024. She primarily works with the baseball, men's golf, and women's golf programs, as well as oversees FGCU’s sports medicine staff. She joined the Eagles after working for just over three years at the University of Mary (N.D.) where she worked with baseball, volleyball, swimming and softball.
Additionally at the University of Mary, Olsen assisted in coverage of men's and women's soccer and men's and women's basketball while also having oversight of the men's basketball graduate assistant athletic trainer. With the baseball program, she developed and implemented a preventative exercise program, individualized for each baseball player based on the beginning of the school year strength (manual muscle testing) and mobility assessments. She also served as the Education Liaison between the ATEP and the Sports Medicine Department while also being responsible for communication with the Clinical Education Coordinator and ATEP Director regarding student/preceptor issues, questions, CAATE documents, and scheduling of the ATR for lab use.
Prior to joining the Marauders Sports Medicine staff, Kenna was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at St. Cloud State University from 2015-2017. While at St. Cloud State she was responsible for the care of the baseball team and assisted with the men’s basketball team. Kenna obtained her Master of Science degree in Special Studies Sports Psychology in 2017.
In 2015, the native of Issaquah, Wash., received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Dakota, as well as minors in psychology and health education. During the summer of 2014, Kenna did an internship with the Seattle Mariners Professional Baseball Organization in Peoria, Ariz. She spent time in the rehabilitation facility and working with the Rookie League team. Kenna also did an internship with the Mayo Clinic Health Systems hospital in Eau Claire, Wisc.
As a four year letterwinner at the University of North Dakota in softball, Kenna competed for the then Fighting Sioux during the 2010-2013 seasons. She was named to the Athletic Director’s honor roll each of those years and was named the Offensive Player of the Year in 2012. In 2010 the Fighting Sioux won the Great West Conference Championship, the only softball championship in school history. Kenna was an all-conference team member in 2011 and 2012, and an NFCA Academic All-American in 2013.
