Janelle Silver-Martin returned to the nest in April of 2025 as an assistant coach under Raina Harmon, coaching the program's guards.
Silver-Martin is no stranger to FGCU, having previously served as video coordinator for the Eagles during the 2019-20 season, when the program went 30-3 and captured an ASUN regular-season title before the remainder of the season was canceled due to COVID-19.
Most recently, Silver-Martin spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Morgan State, where she was recognized as a WBCA Thirty Coaches Under 30 honoree and selected as a National Basketball Coaches Academy participant in 2024. Prior to her time with the Bears, she served two seasons as the director of basketball operations at the University of Richmond.
Before Richmond, Silver-Martin was an assistant coach at Valdosta State during the 2020-21 season, helping the Blazers to an 18-4 record, a Gulf South Conference championship, and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. Her first collegiate coaching role came at Washington Adventist University in 2018-19, where she helped the NAIA program to a 20-10 record.
Silver-Martin's coaching career began at her high school alma mater, Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Md., where she served as an assistant girls' basketball coach in 2016-17.
A native of Washington, D.C., Silver-Martin began her collegiate playing career at Division II Ohio Valley University before transferring to Morgan State, where she appeared in 41 games from 2014-16 and graduated with a degree in public relations in 2016. She later returned to the court at St. Thomas University in 2017-18, appearing in 29 games while pursuing her master's degree in sports administration, which she completed in 2018.
"Janelle is truly the full package — she has a sharp basketball mind, great organizational skills, and a clear understanding of what it takes to thrive in a winning program," said head coach Raina Harmon. "During her time here as video coordinator under coach Smesko, she was part of a period of tremendous success and she continued to grow and excel at Richmond, another highly successful program. Janelle's experience, work ethic, and commitment to excellence will be a huge asset to our staff and our players."
Silver-Martin is married to Thomas Martin and has two daughters, Skylar and Dakota, and stepson, Thomas Jr.
